AI Fellow Positions at Korea Institute for Advanced Study
[The Center for Artificial Intelligence and Natural Sciences]
The Center for Artificial Intelligence and Natural Sciences at Korea Institute for Advanced Study (KIAS) invites applicants with a Ph.D. in Mathematics, Applied Math, Physics, Chemistry, Neuroscience, Biology, Information Science and related fields including Engineering and Computer Science.
The candidates are required to have, or be expected to receive, their doctoral degrees by the starting date at KIAS in relevant fields where computational methods are appropriate or even essential. The research areas include, but are not limited to, the following:
(1) Math for AI / AI for Math: Algebraic Geometry, Combinatorics, Number Theory, Representation Theory, Information Theory, Geometry, Probability Theory, Optimal Transport Theory, Topology, Machine Learning Theory, High-dimensional Computational Geometry, Statistical Learning Theory, Statistical Inference, and Information Geometry.
(2) Computing for AI: Programming Language Theory, Algorithm Theory, Combinatorics, Optimization Theory, and Homomorphic Encryption.
(3) AI for Science: Applications of Artificial Intelligence to basic sciences such as High Energy Physics, Cosmology, Statistical Physics, Materials Science, Chemical and Biological Sciences, and Brain Science / Neuroscience, among others.
Applicants are expected to have demonstrated exceptional research potential, including major contributions after or through the doctoral dissertation.
The annual salary starts from 77,880,000 Korean Won (approximately US$55,000 at current exchange rate); an individual research grant of 15,000,000 Korean Won and a welfare card will be provided each year. The initial appointment for the position is for two years and is renewable once for up to three years, depending on research performance and the needs of the research program at KIAS.
