Position Title: Asphalt Screed Operator
Location: Chicopee, MA
Pay Range: $25.00 - $33.00

Position Description
Ondrick Materials & Recycling, LLC specializes in Commercial and Municipal asphalt paving and repairs including sealcoating, asphalt milling, and asphalt paving. The Screed Operator will be responsible for operating the screed controls to adjust the screed height on the paving machine to ensure proper depth, grade and finish. The screed operator is also responsible for ensuring the consistency of the asphalt mat and the overall ride quality of the finished pavement.

- Knowledge of road construction methods, road construction materials and industry requirements.
- Knowledge of heavy equipment and the ability to operate the screed equipment
- Ability to inspect, maintain, repair and clean equipment
- Knowledge of grades, slope and paving electronics.
- Must understand the different signals used to signal operators of construction machinery
- Self-starter, sense of urgency to meet project deadlines
- Strong ability to multitask and set priorities effectively
- Be flexible and adaptable to change
- Demonstrate professionalism and strive for excellence
- Communicate effectively with management and other crew members
- Excellent hand and eye coordination
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Understand and execute paving procedures while following instructions to meet the standards of the project.
- Operate the screed extensions of the paver to obtain proper depth, grade and finish cross section of asphalt material.
- Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment. Notify supervisor of any needed repairs.
- Signals the paving machine operator to start and stop.
- Using depth gauge, verifies depth specifications of the compacted asphalt.
- Ability to set slope and grade accuracy according to job specifications
- Assists in the general operation of each job site including; adding/removing screed extensions, cleaning excess asphalt off the paver, flagging traffic, set-up and maintenance of erosion control, loading and unloading materials, shoveling dirt, gravel & asphalt, setting up traffic control aids, checking and maintaining grade stakes and general clean-up around job site.
- Participate as a team member in an environment of safety and success.
- Investigate damage, incidents or near misses in the worksite, and ensure proper procedures are carried out according to the Company's Safety Program.
- Promote, execute and adhere to the Company's Safety Program, and encourage all employees, subcontractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
Environment
- Work is performed in an outdoor environment which can include inclement weather, cold and/or heat and humidity.
- Exposure to sun, dust, asphalt, noise and other construction conditions.
- Overtime and long days may be required depending on project flow.
Physical Demands
- Constant physical effort, including pushing and pulling while operating hand controls. Employee must be able to sit for extended periods of time while operating the machinery, and stoop, bend crouch, as required to perform key duties.
- Light lifting and shoveling may be required.
- Frequently work with hands and the use of arms and hands in repetitive motions.
- Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities including the activities of other employees and subcontractors, the operation of stationary and equipment and the movement of mobile equipment.
- Must be able to operate and climb on and off heavy equipment safety
- Use of personal protection equipment is required.
Minimum Qualifications & Educational Requirements
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred
- Minimum 3-5 years' related industry experience preferably on commercial roads & parking lots
- Valid driver's license, CDL preferred
- Traffic control certification a plus
- Must pass pre-employment drug screening
