PURPOSE
The role will support the Reporting Manager in identification, measurement and monitoring of the financial risks with primary focus on investment and market risks of the company. This person will play a key role in driving investment risk initiatives, quantifying our risk appetite and limits for investment risks and thus in shaping how risk is viewed and defined for senior management.
KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Provide oversight of investment and market risks for assigned business units;
- Key support in formulating strategic decision maker within the Group Risk team, for investment risk, market risk, financial risk, ALM, SAA, capital management related matters.
- Lead stakeholder engagement in strengthening investment risk governance, oversight, compliance, implementation of investment risk related policies, guidelines, controls and processes.
- Subject matter expert in discussions at regular committee meetings with Business Unit leaders, especially for Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam.
- Lead adviser and supervisor to the local business unit risk teams on investment risk related initiatives, to help enhance the teams' financial risk maturity and expertise.
- Drive cross-business unit implementation and risk reviews of the SAA and investment mandates. Document the review of fund managers' internal rating approach.
- Lead in the development of early warning indicators for equities, credit, foreign exchange and country risks, etc. Drive the design and back-test of financial and statistical models and review the development of dashboard monitoring tools.
- Support to address regulator's comments and enhancements made to the Group Investment Risk processes, methodologies, reporting and controls, within their specified timelines.
- Lead in the enhancement of liquidity risk oversight, review derivatives peak exposures, introduce and establish key risk indicators (KRI), reverse stress testing (RST) methodology to meet regulators requests.
- Lead in developing/ establishing KRIs and risk metrics to monitor risk appetite and related risk limits and assess the risk profile for both group and BU levels.
- Lead a small team, such as being a line manager to a senior manager, intern and other staff members, to help manage, supervise and train subordinates to complete Group Risk's initiatives and with their personal development.
- Lead in the communications with external vendors and drive the tendering processes when Group Risk seeks for external support and subscription of new software, for investment risk, market risk, ALM initiatives, etc.
- Lead the regular review from the Group Risk team on the setting of investment return assumptions.
- Proactively identify and escalate all emerging issues and assess the potential mitigation actions and solutions.
- Lead in independently assessing and reviewing the underlying risks of all investment proposals, from Group and Local Investments.
- Lead in embedding the investment, ALM, market risk framework and financial risk management into ERM process and conduct ORSA as appropriate.
- Lead in the development and maintenance of investment compliance systems and processes, such as ensuring compliance rules are established in Bloomberg and are communicated effectively to Group and local stakeholders.
- Lead and drive the regular risk reporting/ analysis for key stakeholders as required.
- Key contact for cooperating, coordinating, advising and supporting the Internal Audit team on their internal auditing of investment and market risk system and control issues, etc.
- Key contact with relevant functions, e.g., actuarial, investment, treasury, finance, internal audit and ESG to develop and implement methods to monitor the investment risk of the company investment portfolios on a regular basis.
- Be a champion to foster strong risk culture for FWD.
- Present to senior management and Risk Conferences about topics related to investment risk initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE
- Prior insurance business experience.
- Understanding of IFRS, investment markets, investments and economic frameworks.
- Knowledge of investment tools and quantitative modelling
- Graduate / Bachelor's degree in a related field and FSA/FIA, CFA, CERA or other designation, plus 15+ years relevant experience.
- Experience in managing investment portfolio is a plus
KNOWLEDGE & TECHNICAL SKILLS
- Knowledge of MS Excel (advance level required), VBA, Bloomberg
- Knowledge of capital markets, including swaps, equity options, liquidity and credit risk measurement.
