Position Summary
This is a highly responsible professional that is managing 18 holes on a golf course, putting green, and surrounding areas. There are 200 acres of property within this person's supervisory responsibilities. This includes building maintenance, environmental/safety regulation and compliance, and organization of events, etc. This individual also has budgetary responsibilities, such as maintaining the annual budget for building use and facilities maintenance. Above all, this incumbent is responsible for the general supervision and maintenance of the course as well as the maintenance of the crew, which consists of approximately 5-8 full-time staff and 10-20 part-time student employees.

Training:
- Responsible for on-boarding, training, and continuing education of new as well as current employees. Time should be allocated each month for either the training of new employees and/or continuing the training of current employees. Enough time should be allocated that the employee(s) feel comfortable with the day to day tasks required by someone on the maintenance staff.
Employee Time Management:
- Schedule out work for employees within budgetary limits. This includes maintaining an accurate tracking system that is updated daily. Adjustments should be made in a timely fashion. Amounts that exceed or don't meet must be justified in writing as to why. Weekend work schedules should be accurately scheduled and enforced.
Daily Scheduling and Supervision of Work:
- Additional assignments should be decided and posted prior to the completion of an employee's first task. An accurate Excel or similar form should be kept on a daily basis that details the tasks that were completed and the amount of time it took. Schedule in a fashion that maximizes efficiency. This position is responsible for hiring and firing of subordinate positions. Conduct Performance Evaluations for all subordinate employees. This also includes all grace period evaluations for new hires.
Management of the Timekeeping System:
- Timecards for all employees should be monitored and approved in a timely manner. Ensure that employees are approving their own timecards in a timely manner. Ensure employees are taking proper breaks and maintaining a consistent card.
Supervise Field Irrigation Maintenance:
- Perform all of the Irrigation Technicians duties and work directly with the Irrigation Technician in order to maintain a fully operational irrigation system. Diagnose irrigation problems in order to be able to select an appropriate course of action. There are over 1,000 irrigation heads, multiple control boxes and underground valves. This includes, but is not limited to, electrical problems, breaks, leaks, head problems, nozzle selection and timing issues. This also includes the maintenance and repair of the river pump.

Duties/Responsibilities
Care of Maintenance Facilities:
- Maintain all maintenance facilities by ensuring all buildings are clear and free of debris. Any repairs that are needed should be completed in a timely manner. A visual check, of all facilities, should be made at least once a week. Things that should be checked are cleanliness, organization, safety gear, spill containment units, and for any potential EPD / EPD violations.
Care of Chemical Buildings:
- Manage an organized and clean chemical building. This includes making sure containers are properly labeled, soluble products are above liquid products, floors are clear of any spills, spill containment unit is accessible, safety gear is available, and products are grouped according to their classifications. A check sheet is completed monthly to ensure the aforementioned items are checked thoroughly. Maintain rapport with UGA Environmental Safety Division Representative and schedule meetings biannually to review and comply with any recommendation that is made.
Integrated Pest Management:
- Responsible for accurately scouting for pests on 150 acres of the property with special attention being paid to the greens, tees, fairways. Appropriate action should be taken to control such pests. Environmental, budgetary, economical feasibility, customer impact, and federal and local regulations should be among some of the considerations taken when selecting a course of action.
Pesticide Application & Chemical Management:
- Apply pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, and fertilizers in accordance with label instructions, university policies, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Maintain and operate spray equipment and application machinery to ensure accurate calibration, proper coverage, and safe operation.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of application techniques, weather considerations, environmental protection practices, and integrated pest management ( IPM ) principles.
- Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment ( PPE ) and adherence to all safety protocols for handling, mixing, loading, and application.
- Perform proper mixing, loading, rinsing, and cleanup procedures, including triple-rinsing containers, spill prevention, and appropriate disposal according to regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate and timely application records in compliance with regulatory and institutional requirements.
- Assist in managing chemical storage areas, ensuring products are properly labeled, secured, organized, and stored according to safety and environmental standards.
- Monitor and maintain chemical inventory levels, track usage, and assist with ordering to ensure adequate supply while minimizing waste and expired materials.
- Assist in maintaining compliance with Right-to-Know, SDS documentation, and chemical safety programs.
- Respond appropriately to spills or emergencies and follow established incident reporting procedures.
Management of Golf Course Bathrooms, Rain Shelters, Golf Maintenance Office and Shop Bathroom:
- These areas are to be checked for cleanliness and functionality. A checklist for the cleaning contractor should be kept and any variation or under standard conditions should be reported to the contractor/manager. All non-emergency repairs should be made in a timely fashion as long as budgetary limits allow. For non-emergency major repairs, a proposal should be created and submitted that includes 3 competitive quotes.
Underground storage tank (fuel) management:
- Obtain and maintain a Class A, B, and C operator's certification through the state of Georgia. Accurately inspect, maintain and keep records as required by the state, be able to train all employees on class C certification, and accurately record the successful completion of such training. Ensure signage, spill containment, and safety equipment are present and operational at all times.

- Use Irrigation software that operates all of the irrigation including the pump station. Schedule, adjust, and troubleshoot in order to provide water as needed in the most efficient manner. Follow all local water restrictions and use the UGA Golf Course Best Management Practices Guidelines when watering. A monthly log of total usage is to be kept on hand. Meet with and supervise the biannual preventive maintenance of the two pump stations. Pump stations should be kept clean and free of debris.
