Description
The Village of Deerfield, Illinois (Pop. 19,197) seeks applicants for the full-time position of Building Inspector / Plan Reviewer following a retirement scheduled for January. The 2026 hiring range for this position is expected to be $106,110 – $112,352 step depending on qualifications and experience. (Complete Expected 2026 Salary Range: $106,110 – $137,319 adjusted annually).
Under general supervision of the Building Division Supervisor or designee, the Building Inspector / Plan Reviewer provides municipal building inspection and plan review services to ensure the protection of life, safety and welfare of the general public. The position ensures that all structural, electrical, energy, zoning and mechanical construction conforms to Village ordinances, construction codes, safety codes and applicable outside agency regulations. Work includes performing field inspections, completing thorough plan reviews, verifying zoning requirements, and coordinating with contractors, design professionals, residents and other Village departments.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have a college degree (preferred) or a high school diploma with a background in building trades or construction. Three to five years of experience in construction trades is required. ICC Residential and Commercial certifications are preferred; basic ICC certifications are required within two years of hire.
Completion of following ICC Certificates are preferred and may be considered for determining the hiring range: B1 Residential Building Inspector, E1 Residential Electrical Inspector, M1 Residential Mechanical Inspector, B2 Commercial Building Inspector, E2 Commercial Electrical Inspector, and M2 Commercial Mechanical Inspector. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and OpenGov software is preferred. A valid driver’s license is required.
