Description
Under the general direction of the Chief Building Official inspects and evaluates existing and under construction residential and multi-family properties and structures, commercial buildings and dwelling units to ensure and determine compliance with the City of Batesville’s codes and ordinances standards.
Requirements
Responsible for the enforcement of all applicable city, county, state laws, codes and regulations which includes but is not limited to, health, nuisance and identification of property and structures under substandard conditions.
Visually examines all commercial and residential structures to determine compliance with ordinance standards for electrical, heating, cooling, lighting, ventilating, plumbing and drainage installations.
Inspect previously occupied buildings, spaces or suites for code compliance; approve inspected areas for certificates of occupancy.
Enforces zoning and substandard building regulations.
Prepares forms and letters advising property owners and tenants of possible violations and time allowed for correcting deficiencies.
Maintains and consults files of inspection histories and violation reports, and revisits dwellings at periodic intervals to verify correction of violations by property owners and tenants.
Explains requirements and resolves problems concerning building standards, codes and zoning ordinances to property owners, building contractors, architects, engineers and other interested parties.
Investigates and recommends action against code, standard and ordinance violations, secures and may present evidence to other officials or the Municipal Court.
Collects and recommends application of changes and improvements in building methods, building codes and code enforcement.
May perform other assignments and handle special projects as required.
Regular and timely attendance required, as well as the ability to get along with others in a professional and cordial manner.
Compile and complete all records and reports associated with building inspections.
Work with contractors, developers and the general public to help gain compliance and answer questions
Interact with the public and maintain open and timely communications to ensure positive public relations
Essential functions listed above are not all encompassing: may be required to perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Building Official.
Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
Must have current MSBOC related license and/or obtain within 6 months one ICC certification and Both within 1 year.
