- Code Compliance Inspector
Description
Participates in enforcing local, State, and Federal laws, regulations, codes, and ordinances governing environmental code, safety and zoning issues. Responds to environmental and code compliance inquiries, concerns, and complaint from the public. Interprets, explains, and provides information regarding the City's codes and ordinances. Investigates public nuisance complaints involving junk vehicles, littler, overgrown vegetation, stagnant water, unsanitary conditions, illegal signage, illegal dumping, or other alleged code violations. Identifies and documents violations; obtains photographic and/or other types of evidence. Prepares and issues written correspondence, notices, and/or citations regarding violations. Communicates necessary corrective action required to property owners. Conducts re-inspections and follows up on violations to ensure appropriate compliance. Researches court, tax, and title records; obtains information regarding properties and/or vehicles under investigation. Recommends and/or initiates legal action against violators as required; prepares and provides case testimony in court. Performs inspections of zoning and property maintenance violations for compliance with applicable regulations. Prepares, updates, and maintains a variety of code compliance records, logs and reports. Performs other related duties as assigned or required.
Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent combined with additional coursework related to Code Compliance, and one year code enforcement experience; OR equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License. State of Texas Code Enforcement Officer certification is required within one year of employment. NPDES Certified Storm Water Inspection – Municipal required within two years of employment.
