Summary/Objective
Coordinate and conduct complex financial, management and operational audits of Department activities and business practices.
Essential Job Duties
- Coordinate and conduct complex financial, management and operational audits of Department activities and business practices by verifying and examining accounting records, statements, invoices, policies, procedures, laws and other statistical information, and recommends appropriate corrective action for identified problems.
- Prepare reports and findings and makes recommendations for improvement and corrections.
- Develop and administer the Department's overall audit program. Consult with Department employees and/or individuals outside the agency regarding questions or concerns with audit results.
- Review and approve all responses to the sunshine law requests that are received by the Department, ensuring the response is timely and responsive to the request while ensuring confidential information is kept confidential.
- Prepare Commission actions and correspondence for Director's signature.
- Review draft legislation, proposed regulation changes, reports and professional journals to keep informed on developing issues affecting Department and State resources.
- Coordinate the hiring or contracting of independent audit resources.
- Recommend modifications or creation of Department policies, procedures and practices.
Ancillary Job Duties
- Serve as primary Department contact with the State Auditor's Office.
- Facilitate, coordinate, and/or participate in Department and multi-Division efforts including internal task forces, committees, planning efforts and meetings.
- Determine, on a monthly basis, the individuals that have accumulated enough points in wildlife code violations that could result in suspension of one or move of hunting, trapping, or fishing privileges. For the individuals that request an informal hearing, sit on the three person informal hearing panel, preside over the hearing, and make a recommendation to the Commission regarding the person's privileges.
- Ensure compliance with the Workforce Diversity Plan and Equal Employment Opportunity Policy for the Department.
- Attend Commission Executive Sessions and meetings to discuss audit findings and revocations associated with hunting, fishing, and trapping wildlife code violations.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance, business administration or closely related field.
- At least six (6) years of progressively responsible professional experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Professional experience in positions demonstrating a knowledge and application of auditing standards, generally accepted accounting principles and practices, business practices and statistical analysis, audit management.
- Proficiency with electronic auditing software (ACL) and other data mining preferred.
- A Master's Degree in an applicable field and/or a CPA or CIA license is preferred.
- Must maintain a valid, current driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge and application of auditing standards, generally accepted accounting principles and practices, business practices and statistical analysis.
- Ability to make independent decisions and act quickly and decisively on the determined course of action.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with members of all types of groups, Department staff and the general public.
- Ability to work effectively as a team member and assist in resolving conflicts.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with Department personnel and the general public.
- Ability to develop and present programs to individuals and groups.
Work Environment
- Regularly work in a standard office environment.
Physical Abilities
- Remain stationary up to 70% of the time.
- Regularly communicate and exchange accurate information.
- Constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery.
- Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less; three-dimensional vision; precise hand-eye coordination.
- Regularly lift up to 10 pounds.
- Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.

Exemption Status/Special Notes
This position has been determined to be Exempt according to the Fair Labor Standards Act. Employees must agree to accept compensatory time in lieu of cash payments in accordance with the Department's Compensatory Time Off and Overtime Policy.
Salaried and hourly employees are expected to use a mobile device-cellular phone for Department business, as needed.
