HOURS : Full Time (40 hours a week)
Work Week - Tuesday - Saturday

JOB DESCRIPTION :
The cemetery is seeking a motivated individual for a full-time position as Crematory Operator. Candidates are responsible for the overall function and maintenance of our onsite crematory, chapel, and mausoleum. Specifically, the position will operate the crematory, coordinate delivery of decedent and cremated remains to and from funeral homes, maintain clean and safe work areas and perform other duties as assigned by the Albany Rural Cemetery Superintendent and/or Albany Rural Cemetery General Manager. The major objectives are to provide the highest quality services and products and to satisfy the needs of all client families. These areas and responsibilities include, but may not be limited to the following:
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Maintain a positive work environment by behaving and communicating in a manner so that you get along with families, co-workers, and management.
- Perform daily scheduling and activities for the crematory.
- Operate and maintain on-site crematory. Daily monitoring and tracking of crematory activity, environmental and air quality issues. Process and package cremated remains.
- Coordinate and transfer of decedent and cremated remains to and from chapels and crematory.
- Maintain required records and documents with a high degree of attention to detail.
- Clean the crematorium, chapel, and mausoleum, including tables, floors, and equipment.
- Document divided remains to ensure parts are not misplaced.
- Pick up and handle human remains in a respectful manner.
- Place corpses into crematory machines to reduce remains to bone fragments using flame/heat.
- Pulverize remaining bone fragments into smaller pieces, using specialized equipment, such as a cremulator or grinder.
- Read documentation to confirm the identity of the deceased.
- Sweep or vacuum the cremation chamber to retrieve remains for storage in an urn or other container.
- Assist Funeral Directors and Albany Rural Cemetery Administrative staff with relevant paperwork.
- Perform routine maintenance and care of crematory related equipment and operate to manufactures recommendations.
- Maintain inventory of crematory supplies.
- Ensure the physical crematory area, facility, and preparation room are clean of debris and maintained in a neat, orderly manner.
- Wear and always use the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during the performance of the job duties that require such equipment.
- Treat decedent with respect and decorum.
- Remain up to date on company learning, policies, and procedures as assigned.
- Maintain clean operating area and equipment and comply with all governing rules and regulations regarding sanitation and hazardous waste.
- Light housekeeping to keep the facilities and grounds in perfect order. This includes keeping work areas tidy, picking up litter on the grounds and general straightening up.
- Assembling, organizing and storing cremation boxes.
- Preparing niches for services: cleaning and lettering.
- Preparing for and assisting with chapel events.
Burials :
- Assisting in the opening of graves for caskets and cremation
- Positioning casket-lowering device on grave, preparing for artificial grass carpet, erects canopies and arranging of folding chairs to prepare site for burial service(s).
- Installing bronze plaques and grass
- Mixing and pouring concrete to construct foundations for grave markers, using premixed concrete, wheelbarrow, and other essential and necessary tools.
Education & Experience :
- A GED is required. Associate degree is desired.
- Valid Crematory Operators Certificate or ability to obtain and keep in good standing.
- A Valid NYS Driver's License is required.
