Description
This is a senior Compliance Advisory position within the Japan platform of a profitable global banking group, supporting Corporate & Investment Banking activities. Operating in a lean and highly collaborative environment, this role offers broad exposure to cross-border transactions and close partnership with Financial Crime and Risk teams. You will play a visible and influential role in shaping compliance standards and supporting business growth in Japan.Key Responsibilities
- Provide compliance advisory support to Corporate & Investment Banking on product design, new initiatives, and complex transactions.
- Partner closely with business, operations, and control functions to ensure adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
- Advise on and resolve competing regulatory requirements, including AML, data privacy, bank secrecy, and information security.
- Establish and maintain a risk-based compliance framework, including monitoring and assurance programs.
- Manage audit, assurance, and regulatory review processes, including issue tracking, remediation, and lessons learned.
- 5+ years of compliance experience within banking, securities, or regulated financial services.
- Proven experience providing advisory support on cross-border and onshore/offshore transactions.
- Strong compliance advisory expertise across corporate banking and/or investment banking.
- Solid understanding of compliance risk management frameworks and second-line oversight.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification.
- Self-starter able to plan, prioritise, and execute effectively in a lean environment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and challenge senior stakeholders.
- High level of integrity with the ability to build trust while maintaining independence.
- Sound judgement and a commitment to embedding a strong risk-aware culture.
- Japanese: Native level
- English: Conversational level
- Markets product knowledge relevant to Corporate & Investment Banking coverage.
- Experience with compliance surveillance concepts, including screening and monitoring.
- Background in investigations and complex issue management.
- Experience engaging with regulators and managing regulatory stakeholders in Japan.
