About the Opportunity:
The Director of Human Resources provides strategic leadership and oversight for all human resources functions, ensuring alignment with the UM Foundation’s mission, core values, and strategic priorities. The Director promotes a high-performing and mission-driven workplace culture and oversees the full scope of HR programs including talent acquisition, compensation and benefits, performance management, employee engagement, and organizational development. This position partners closely with the executive team to advance workforce planning, talent retention, compliance, and organizational effectiveness across the UM Foundation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develops and implements HR strategies and initiatives that align with the UM Foundation’s strategic plan and organizational goals
- Provides strategic guidance to executive leadership on organizational structure, workforce planning and change management
- Annually reviews and recommends improvements to the UM Foundation’s HR policies, procedures and guidelines to ensure compliance, consistency and effectiveness
- Leads the design, implementation and administration of the compensation and benefits programs
- Oversees HR compliance, ensuring adherence to state and federal employment laws and regulations
- Serves as a trusted advisor to management and employees, fostering strong communication, collaboration, and engagement across all levels
Ideal Candidate:
- Proven experience in senior HR leadership, preferably within a nonprofit or higher education environment
- Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices, including FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO, and related regulations
- Strategic thinker with the ability to align HR initiatives to organizational goals
- Proven ability to manage organizational change and coach leaders through complex situations
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field
- Seven or more years of progressively responsible HR experience, including at least three years in a leadership or management role
