Description
Job Summary: Under minimal supervision and with reasonable accommodation as required, the Director of Human Resources provides strategic leadership to HR staff and the organization. This role includes oversight and implementation of initiatives related to Human Resources and Employee Health and Safety management. Responsibilities encompass employment law compliance (including immigration), recruitment, employee training and development, policy and procedure development, compensation and benefits, HRIS/HRMS systems such as BambooHR, program implementation and oversight, healthcare regulatory compliance (ACA, EEOC, NLRB, FCRA, OSHA), employee health and safety including client safety audits, workers’ compensation, unemployment insurance management and cost control, and technology research and implementation including AI-driven HR solutions.
Duties:
- Absolute responsibility for “maintaining the GPS culture” and “doing the right thing at all times,” including providing for a fun and Family Forward work environment.
- Plan, develop, revise, implement, maintain, and monitor HR strategies, policies, procedures, and programs to ensure standardization and compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations (such as EEOC, NLRB, FCRA, OSHA, I-9/E-verify, immigration and seasonal employment regulations) and company
- Coordinate with Director of Recruiting/Operations and other management on internal recruiting and onboarding.
- Direct work of HR Generalist and other HR staff and ensure ongoing training.
- Manage total rewards program including performance management, compensation, career path design and employee benefits
- Establish, define, and revise human resources functions, including recordkeeping, hiring, promotions, terminations, compensation, benefits, employee relations all within applicable legal requirements.
- Implement proactive employee health and safety measures in partnership with clients, including client site inspections and safety audits, development of temporary employee safety orientation processes and systems, and coordination of safety training.
- Direct workers’ compensation management processes including communicating/ working with the insurance carrier, investigating all injuries and “near misses” to identify underlying safety issues, providing light duty assignments, and managing the administration of medical attention. Ensure that new clients/risks are approved by the carrier and correct premiums are in effect.
- Direct Risk management program include purchase, renewal and claims management for commercial, liability, crime, cybercrime, employee practices/employee benefits, business interruption/dependent properties, and related coverages.
- Work closely with the third-party administrator for ACA compliant healthcare for temporary employees. Maintain compliance with ACA. and related statutes including EEOC, NLRB, FCRA, OSHA, and seasonal employment regulations.
- As related to employee healthcare; create and manage processes to research and resolve employee related issues, ensure proper deductions, communicate acceptance and decline of coverage to the carrier, broker, TPA etc.
- Source/purchase internal benefit programs in coordination with insurance broker Manage HRIS and HRMS systems including BambooHR to support employee benefits administration.
- Coordinate with 401(k) provider and Controller to manage retirement program and ensure IRS/DOL compliance
- Manage and coordinate work of outside IT vendor to ensure technology is maintained and upgraded as needed for effective operations and cybercrime prevention.
- Manage unemployment insurance (UI) tax control and claims process, including documentation, claims hearings and statistics
- Participate in employee training including monthly staff training and coordinate outside training resources as needed.
- Assist ownership and Vice-President with management of the organization.
- Continue to develop professionally including maintaining required certifications and attend meetings of professional organizations (SHRM, ASA, HRMAG, Catapult/CAI). etc.)
- Other duties as assigned by ownership/executive management.
Requirements
Skills/Requirements:
- Bachelor´s Degree in Business, Human Resources, or related field, or 10 years’ Human Resources management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- 3+ years’ experience in the staffing industry helpful
- Professional certification (SHRM/HRCI) preferred
- OSHA or other professional safety training helpful
- Appropriately and discreetly handle confidential information.
- Utilize independent judgment to plan, prioritize and execute diverse workload.
- Apply effective time management and self-management skills in a busy work environment; ability to meet deadlines despite regular interruptions.
- Possess outstanding people and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with HRIS, HRMS, ATS, and HCM systems such as UKG, BambooHR, ICIMS, Workday, Sage, ADP, Bullhorn, etc.
- Proficiency with AI such as Copilot, ChatGPT, Gemini, etc.
- Possess high level of proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook software as well as Human Resources Management and/or Applicant Tracking Software
