Description
The City of Gaithersburg Department of Planning & Code Administration is seeking an experienced Electrical Code Inspector to join our Permits & Inspections Division.
The Electrical Code Inspector performs difficult independent work providing knowledge, abilities, and technical skills in the inspection of commercial and residential building plans and construction for compliance with electrical codes. Strong candidates must be a licensed electrician in the State of Maryland (or have equivalent experience), have demonstrated knowledge of electrical construction codes as applied to construction standards for varied and complex projects, and must also possess exceptional interpersonal, written, technology, and verbal communication skills along with demonstrated skills of working proactively and collaboratively with stakeholders to ensure compliance with applicable code provisions.
The Permits & Inspections Division's focus is to provide consistent high-quality customer service, uphold the public interest, and be a part of the community vision. That requires a positive attitude, high degree of professionalism, and a strong work ethic. We're looking for a problem solver who brings technical expertise, fresh thinking, and significant residential and commercial electrical inspection experience to the table. The ideal candidate will need to be a clear communicator and an innovator with the ability to assess situations, apply appropriate analysis, interpret applicable laws and regulations, and resolve each situation appropriately.
40 hours per week, Monday through Friday; a core work schedule will be determined upon hire. Some additional hours may be necessary to meet operational needs. Starting salary negotiable within the target hiring range ($85,000 - $95,000). Excellent benefits package. Applications are accepted through the City's website only.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Journeyman or Master Electrician License valid in the state of Maryland (or have demonstrated equivalent experience).
- At least 5 years of experience as a journeyman electrician, with experience in the electrical inspection aspects of the work.
- Valid driver's license and safe driving record.
- Demonstrated knowledge of national, state, and local electrical codes, laws, and ordinances.
- Demonstrated knowledge of all types of electrical installation, materials, methods of, and stages of construction when possible violations and defects may be most easily observed and corrected.
- Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and review plans, specifications, and blueprints for code compliance and compare them with construction in progress.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, interpersonal, and written/verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret, apply, explain, ensure compliance with, and enforce codes, ordinances, and regulations with firmness, tact, good judgment, and impartiality.
- Solid technology skills (Microsoft 365, GIS, code compliance tracking/permitting software, etc.).
- Demonstrated proficiency in preparing factually clear, concise, and complete written reports and correspondence.
- Or any acceptable equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to satisfactorily perform job duties.
