The primary purpose of this position is to install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, fixtures, and systems in City buildings and facilities. The Electrician performs highly skilled electrical work, secures required permits, coordinates inspections, and ensures all work meets National Electrical Code standards and applicable regulations.
Essential duties include performing advanced electrical work as a licensed Master Electrician, including permitted projects; reviewing and coordinating plans with engineers, planners, and contractors; and recommending and implementing improvements. The position researches and procures materials, installs and tests circuits and lighting systems, works with standard and high electrical voltages, and troubleshoots and resolves electrical issues. Responsibilities also include applying for permits, coordinating inspections, maintaining detailed records, and performing other duties as assigned. Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
This position does not have supervisory responsibility.
Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent. An associate degree or two-year technical degree in electrical technology or a related field is strongly preferred. Candidates must have three to five years of experience in the electrical trades. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
Required licenses and certifications include a valid Master Electrician License. A Class B Commercial Driver's License with no air brake restriction is required within six months of hire, along with Department of Transportation medical certification.
Successful candidates will have strong knowledge of electrical tools, equipment, materials, and the National Electrical Code. The position requires the ability to estimate time and materials, communicate effectively, operate hand and power tools safely, and operate motorized equipment such as loaders, backhoes, trucks, and excavators. Candidates must be able to read engineered plans, solve complex problems, maintain accurate records, work independently or as part of a team, work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and respond on-call as required.
Work is performed primarily outdoors, at construction sites, and in shop and field environments with frequent exposure to extreme temperatures, loud noise, moving equipment, and hazardous conditions, including occasional work at dangerous heights. Physical demands include lifting up to 35 pounds and maintaining a constant state of alertness to ensure safety.
Individuals needing accommodation to apply may call 573-874-2489 or TTY 711 (Missouri Relay).
