Description:
Salary Range: $56,804.18 - $111,735.86
Scope & Purpose:
This position is for an engineering inspector in the Engineering Department. The position ensures the integrity, safety, and compliance of port infrastructure and projects through field inspections, documentation, and collaboration with project teams.
Essential Functions & Duties:
- Conducts visual, dimensional, and non-destructive testing (NDT) inspections.
- Verify materials, equipment, labor, and other work and installations against approved drawings, specifications, and quality plans.
- Identifies and documents non-conformances; issues field reports and tracks corrective actions to closure.
- Prepares detailed inspection reports with photos, measurements, and code references using.
- Perform field visits and observations on behalf of the Port for Engineering Department.
- May accompany survey crew in field to locate grading markers or to collect data required for revision of construction drawings.
- Collects and interprets survey and engineering data; establishes and maintains filing and records keeping systems.
- Applies standard formulas to calculate area, volume, distance, grade, triangulation, evaluations, etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Knowledge of symbols, terminology, and accepted standards used in construction and engineering fields.
- Considerable knowledge of Marine, Rail, Road and Building construction standards and design.
- Ability to identify discrepancies between design work and port specifications. Ability to read and interpret engineering, architectural and construction drawings.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and specifications.
- Ability to work effectively in a group setting; establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to multi-task and handle multiple project assignments.
Minimum Training & Experience Requirements:
- Graduation from high school or possession of a GED certificate; and
- Five (5) years of experience in Civil, Structural or Marine construction and/or design.
- Or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies listed above.
Special Requirements:
- Incumbent must possess a current and valid Florida Motor Vehicle Operator's License or capable of obtaining one within thirty days from the date of hire.
- Must successfully pass a seaport security background check and compliance for a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
- May be required to obtain license as a drone pilot.
- Operates small work boats (e.g., 1525) ft for inspections. Captures high-resolution aerial photos and 4K video using drones to document structural conditions, corrosion, or defects.
Physical Requirements:
Moderate Occasionally lifts up to 50 pounds.
Position Type / Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel:
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and/or overnight travel may rarely be required.

Environmental Exposure
Inside: 30% Outside: 70%
Work is performed primarily indoors though the employee will be required to go out of the office in the field. Employee will also be exposed to minimal noise and vibration.
Vision and Hearing
Must be able to clearly see the computer monitor, and road (while driving) with or without corrected vision. Must be able to judge or distinguish distance and space relationships. Must be able to hear within a normal range with or without a hearing device.
