Job Summary
An Equipment Operator is needed to support terminal operations by operating heavy machinery to move, organize, and transport cargo efficiently and safely. The role involves handling containerized, palletized, and oversized cargo in a fast-paced environment, supporting vessel and rail operations, and ensuring proper staging, inspection, and shipment of goods. The position requires attention to safety, coordination with teams, and adherence to operational procedures.
Responsibilities
Primary
Operate heavy equipment to move and stage cargo for vessel and rail operations
Use handheld devices or computer systems to track container movements and updates
Stage containers for inspections and X-ray requirements
Maintain yard organization and ensure efficient cargo flow
Communicate delays or operational issues to appropriate personnel
Collaborate with teams to ensure optimal productivity
Perform equipment safety checks and basic maintenance
Maintain awareness of surroundings to ensure safe operations
Secondary
Transport and prepare oversized cargo and heavy equipment for shipment
Secure cargo using straps, chains, and appropriate methods
Support loading and unloading of vessels
Prepare cargo for export and proper storage
Maintain a clean and safe work environment
Perform additional duties as assigned

Required
Minimum 2 years of experience operating heavy equipment (e.g., forklift, yard jockey, top loader, or similar), or a CDL-A license with at least 1 year of relevant experience
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
Ability to complete on-the-job training and certification for heavy equipment within 90 days
Ability to safely handle containerized and oversized cargo in a high-volume environment
Basic English communication skills (reading, writing, speaking)
Basic computer skills and ability to process alphanumeric data
Flexible availability, including night shifts, weekends, holidays, and extended hours
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Strong organizational and time management skills
Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships
Ability to follow procedures and instructions accurately
Must obtain a TWIC card within 30 days of employment
Preferred
Hazmat training or additional certifications/end endorsements
Physical Requirements
Continuous sitting and equipment operation with hand-eye coordination
Frequent repetitive movements and communication
Occasional standing, walking, climbing, bending, and lifting (up to 5 pounds)
Visual abilities including distance, depth perception, and focus adjustment
Safety Requirements
Report safety hazards and incidents immediately
Follow all safety policies and procedures
Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
Participate in safety training and meetings
Maintain awareness of personal and team safety at all times
