What Your Job Will Be Like
The Special Projects Surety Engineering and Product Delivery Department, 2911, is looking for a highly motivated Supply Chain Engineering Assessor to provide Sandia Laboratory Executive Leadership, Mission, and Mission Support Centers collaborative technical solutions and assessments in support of our national security and Nuclear Deterrent programs.
On any given day, you may be called upon to:
- Communicate with external vendors/suppliers to support assessment activities such as scheduling, setting assessment expectations, and performing on-site vendor assessments
- Communicate with internal Product Realization Teams to support supplier assessment activities
- Author vendor assessment reports detailing compliance or non-compliance to NNSA supplier requirements
- Perform requirements trace from NNSA requirements to departmental policies and procedures.
- Establish, maintain, and improve quality policies, processes, procedures, and tools
- Assess processes and systems and conduct risk analysis, root cause analysis, corrective or preventive actions, lessons learned, and benchmarking. Track corrective and preventive actions to completion
- Ensure operation and continuous improvement of document control and records management processes
- Analyzes results of procedure implementation for problems or best practices in several disciplines
- Prepares reports and recommend solutions to technical problems as required
- Defines, selects, and applies various techniques including supplier qualification, certification, evaluation, ratings, performance improvement, etc.
- Identifies sources of design inputs such as customer requirements, regulatory requirements and how they translate into manufacturing
- Defines, describes, and interprets the basic elements of a quality system, including design, planning, control, and improvement, documentation, quality standards from product and process design through quality cost systems, audit programs, etc.
- Perform Nuclear Enterprise Assurance (NEA) vendor assessments to support NNSA's counter-subversion program
- Train and mentor early career assessor staff to conduct external vendor/supplier assessment activities
Due to the nature of work, successful candidate must be able to work onsite. This position will require travel up to 50%.
Salary Range
$102,400 - $199,700
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require
- A Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology or Engineering Field including areas such as Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, and Industrial Engineering, or other relevant disciplines plus five or more years of experience; or equivalent experience and/or achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the job
- Experience on gathering wide-ranging data, conducting supplier assessments and qualification, reviewing documentation, and performing research and analysis, utilizing the findings to come up with a conclusion
- Expertise in the analysis, design, development, and implementation of technical, performance-based, and/or quality assurance systems
- Experience in auditing and assessing processes and systems
- Skill in related technologies, such as mechanics, electronics, or computers
- Ability to obtain DOE Q- Level security clearance
Qualifications We Desire
- Master's degree in STEM field
- Expertise in the analysis, design, development, and implementation of technical, performance-based, and/or quality assurance systems
- Experience in auditing and assessing processes and systems
- Experience and demonstrated skill in conducting benchmarking, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions for problems that affect performance results
- Expertise in the development and implementation of operating policies, processes, and procedures
- Proficiency in manufacturing, business process improvement, planning and implementing projects
- Experience in applying Quality Tools (e.g., RCA, Statistics, Lean methodology, Six Sigma)
- Strong writing, communication, facilitation, critical thinking, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Ability to model behaviors that reflect Sandia's core values
- Ability to work in a team-focused environment, exercise discretion, and maintain confidentiality of information
- Ability to conceptualize and communicate major elements of performance assurance to both technical and non-technical personnel
- Ability to develop, implement, verify, and validate processes to meet requirements
- Ability to exercise judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for achieving results (e.g., Strategic planning, decision-making models)
- Knowledge of quality principles including project and configuration management processes and methodologies
- Ability to facilitate uncompromising, high-quality standards while maintaining effective working relationships
- Ability to interact effectively with all levels of internal and external personnel, including the ability to build effective working relationships and build and lead diverse teams across the laboratories
About Our Team
The Surety Engineering Groups (2910 & 2920) are a center of excellence for research and development (R&D) Surety Systems Engineering at Sandia National Laboratories. With multidisciplinary engineers at numerous sites, our organization provides R&D hardware and software surety and systems engineering expertise throughout the entire product realization lifecycle, as well as trains fellow scientists and engineers in trust assurance development and methodologies. We deliver strong technical solutions that increase customer confidence against loss, damage, and errors by minimizing a product's risk through the prevention, early detection, and mitigation of defects. Our engineers play a critical role in R&D project teams responsible for realizing high-consequence products, providing customized engineering support that ensures the appropriate qualification and testing evidence meets design requirements in a predictable, timely, and sustainable manner.
Posting Duration

Security Clearance
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs
