Description
Job Summary
The Finish Painter Assistant is responsible for supporting painting operations by preparing surfaces, applying coatings, and assisting with finishing tasks on production projects. This role involves working with various paints, primers, and protective coatings to ensure high-quality finishes on metal components and structures.
Essential Job Functions
Prepare surfaces for primer and final coatings using sanding, brushing, and other tools.
Clean and strip corrosion, rust, old paint, and finishes using mechanical or chemical methods.
Apply paints and protective coatings to metal components and structures.
Mix, blend, and match primers, paints, and coatings as required.
Operate spray painting equipment to apply industrial finishes.
Follow safety guidelines using material safety data and proper handling procedures.
Apply stenciling and markings according to specifications and technical drawings.
Use personal protective equipment (PPE) such as respirators, gloves, and protective suits.
Safely handle equipment and materials.
Work standard schedules with potential overtime as required.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, and specifications.
Basic knowledge of coating applications, including primers, paints, and protective finishes.
Familiarity with spray painting tools, mixers, and surface preparation equipment.
Understanding of paint application processes and drying times.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience or equivalent training.
Knowledge and training in the use of respirators preferred.
