The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District (TMFPD) seeks an accomplished Fire Marshal to take the reins of our Fire Prevention Division. This is an executive leadership position that serves as the Architect of Community Risk Reduction and Code Integrity for our community. This role requires a unique combination of technical code mastery, fire service experience, and proven executive leadership in the public sector.

This is not a field inspector role; this is the senior management classification responsible for developing the policies, managing the budget, and providing the strategic vision that ensures building compliance, mitigates risk in the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI), and protects the lives of both our citizens and our first responders. Reporting directly to the Fire Chief, you will ensure our commitment to excellence starts with prevention. The union does not represent this position.

The tentative schedule for this recruitment is:

• Tentatively, the panel interview will be on January 15
• Tentatively, the Chief's interview with finalists will be on January 16
• Anticipated start date is February 2, 2026

Requirements

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Education: An Associate’s degree or higher from an accredited college/university in Fire Science, Fire Technology, Public Administration, or a closely related field.
• Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible fire prevention experience in an all-risk career fire department, including inspection, investigation, and plan review.
• Leadership: Including at least three (3) years of senior-level supervisory or administrative responsibility.

Required at Application:

• A valid Driver’s License.
• Fire/Arson Investigator Certification from a recognized body (NFPA, IAAI, NAFI, or Nevada State Fire Marshal).
• International Code Council (ICC) Fire Inspector I and Fire Inspector II certification.
• International Code Council (ICC) Fire Plans Examiner certification.
  

Required within 6 Months:

• International Code Council (ICC) Fire Code Specialist certification.
  

Required within 2 Years: 

• Certified Fire Marshal (CFM) credential from the ICC or CPSE.

The Ideal Candidate will have: 

• A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Fire Science, Public Administration, Business Administration, or Fire Technology.
