Work Schedule & Salary:
- Schedule: Full Time, 40 hours per week
- Pay rate: $19.00 per hour
- Onsite: Manteno, IL

Position Summary: The Food Service Assistant II will partner with the food service team in preparing and delivering balanced meals to Academy residents while following food and safety guidelines. This individual will provide oversight and occasional direction to the Food Service Staff while performing food receiving, inventory and maintenance and contributing to a safe and compliant food service environment.
Primary responsibilities:
- Food Service Training, Development & Oversight
- Assists in training and guiding new food service staff and providing oversight to youth employees in the Food Service Department.
- Collaborate with coworkers and exhibit and promote cooperation and flexibly with team members.
- Understands and adheres to reimbursable -vs- non-reimbursable food requirements and performs role according to these procedures.
- Participates in the interviewing, selection and hiring process for the Food Service Team and employee separation as needed.
- Assists Food Service Supervisor with scheduling and approving timecards.
- Prepares for, documents, and delivers individual Food Service Staff regular performance feedback, including positive feedback, opportunities, incidents, and corrective action.
2. Perform Food Service Functions according to Health & Safety Standards, Policy & Procedures.
- Prepares and serves food, beverage and snacks for daily resident meals and Academy Events.
- Maintains healthy and compliant sanitation areas relating to food preparation, storage, and service.
- Washes, maintains, and stores dishes, utensils, cooking and baking equipment, supplies etc.
- Ensures proper disposal food disposal and garbage processing.
- Provides support in areas of inventory, receiving, stocking and maintenance.
3. Food and Beverage Planning.
- Assists with daily meal menu planning in compliance with all nutritional and regulatory standards and requirements.
- Occasionally partners and collaborates with supervisor and Food Service department staff in additional food service preparation, serving, cleanup and maintenance.
- Assists in coordinating menus or food and beverage items for special events, meetings or other gatherings sponsored by the Academy.
4. Maintains accurate mealtime records, meal counts and food usage.
5. Remain current and adhere to all food service standard operating procedure, rules and instructions.
- Maintains appropriate confidentiality relating to resident background and treatment; complies with all Nexus privacy and confidentiality policies and maintain appropriate boundaries with residents at all times.
- Attends staff meetings and training sessions required by Nexus; understands and supports the Nexus philosophy, mission, and treatment modalities.
6. Performs other responsibilities, tasks & projects as needed.
Requirements:Required Education and Licensure:
- High School diploma or GED.
- Certificate in food handling.
- Valid driver's license required. Must meet state regulating agency and Home Office driving requirements
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Prefer 1-year food service/custodial experience.
