Preferred Qualifications Position Summary
This is a heavy equipment operator for Mail and Receiving Services. Duties will include, but not limited to, using a forklift or electric pallet jack to load and unload the box trucks with lift gates. Drivers will safely deliver oversized freight, hazardous material and chemicals, gurneys of mail and/or packages to campus. Heavy equipment operator will coordinate delivery logistics to include delivery schedule with labs, UGA departments, and University Housing. Knowledgeable of UGA campus and will be responsible for completing delivery paperwork and assisting submit claims for any damaged freight.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
Knowledge of UGA buildings and campus streets. Ability to learn the different docks and heights of those docks. Great customer service skills. Ability to work with a team.

Standing, sitting, driving, lifting, and reaching. Lift up to 40 pounds.

Duties/Responsibilities
Duties/Responsibilities
Coordinate and schedule the delivery of freight, hazardous material and chemicals, oversized items, and gurneys of mail and packages. Load the box trucks to ensure cargo is secure and does not shift during transport. Safely secure all hazardous material and chemicals. These steps will include the proper use of forklifts and electric pallet jacks.
Percentage of time 40 Duties/Responsibilities
Analyze incoming freight and oversized items in order to coordinate a delivery schedule with the departments, labs, and residence halls/University Housing. Utilize knowledge of dock heights to determine the best delivery method.
Percentage of time 25 Duties/Responsibilities
Assist with the process of checking and inspecting damaged packages or freight. Correspond directly with shipper and supplier to rectify any issues, claims or returns. Ensure comments are added to UGAMart and department is aware of replacements or delays with their incoming packages and freight.
Percentage of time 15 Duties/Responsibilities
Pick-up gurneys of UGA department and residence hall mail and packages from the Olympic Drive post office each morning. Assist with sorting all of the incoming mail and packages.
Percentage of time 10 Duties/Responsibilities
Fill in for drivers on an as needed basis. This includes making special pickups for departments
