Infrastructure Engineer

We are searching for an experienced Infrastructure Engineer for our corporate Pittsburgh, PA location. This position will partner with cross-functional teams to architect and deploy server, storage, and security solutions, optimize system performance, and ensure the reliability and scalability of both hybrid cloud and on-premises environments. Responsibilities will include infrastructure automation, proactive and reactive system monitoring, patch management including security updates and third-party patches and server configuration management. Additionally, you will play a key role in defining and enforcing best practices to strengthen the organization's infrastructure and cloud strategy, ensuring solutions are secure, resilient, compliant, and aligned with enterprise standards.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain automation and configuration management processes for Windows and Linux servers, including baselines, change management, version control, and compliance auditing to ensure consistency, security, and regulatory adherence.
- Continuously enhance IT service monitoring across cloud and on premises environments to improve both proactive and reactive visibility into infrastructure health, performance, and security. Leverage monitoring platforms to detect issues early and reduce operational impact.
- Manage and oversee end-to-end patch management, ensuring all server operating systems, security patches, and third party applications remain fully updated and protected. Utilize automation and standardized workflows to streamline deployment, maintenance, and lifecycle management of all infrastructure components.
- Design and implement scalable, resilient, and secure on premises infrastructure solutions that align with business and technical requirements.
- Design and implement infrastructure-level security controls to safeguard data, applications, and technology assets across hybrid environments.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure infrastructure solutions support organizational priorities, standards, and long-term strategies.
Secondary Responsibilities:
- Administer and support Microsoft technologies including Active Directory, Exchange, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, Azure IaaS, Azure Entra, and Microsoft 365.
- Provide ongoing operational support for these systems, including after-hours support as needed.
- Monitor performance metrics, capacity, and availability; generate reports to support ongoing optimization and capacity planning.
- Test, certify, and deploy new versions of Windows operating systems and related infrastructure components, ensuring compatibility and smooth integration.
- Lead and coordinate large-scale initiatives—such as upgrades, deployments, and infrastructure refreshes—while managing incidents, problems, and changes to ensure successful execution.
- Offer technical expertise, mentorship, and knowledge sharing with team members.
- Document operational procedures, policies, and system configurations, keeping documentation current and accurate.
- Support operational continuity by planning for organizational, technical, and human impacts associated with infrastructure changes.
Required Education/Experience:
- 6+ years of IT infrastructure experience.
- 6+ years of experience with the Microsoft server ecosystem (Windows Server, Exchange, Azure, AD, Entra ID, etc.) and Linux systems.
- Proven experience with infrastructure monitoring, patch management (including third-party patching), and server configuration management.
- 3+ years of experience in technology consulting, enterprise architecture, or systems engineering.
- Demonstrated ability to develop PowerShell scripts and automate server and infrastructure tasks.
- Experience leading large-scale IT initiatives involving system design, deployment, and configuration.
- Consistent track record of delivering technical solutions on schedule.
- Has experience with ITIL best practices and governance principles to ensure consistent, efficient, and compliant IT service delivery.
- Strong collaboration, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to proactively anticipate and mitigate issues.
- Ability to prioritize and effectively execute tasks under pressure.
- Skilled in planning, executing, and closing IT projects.
- Demonstrates strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with team members and cross-functional partners.
