Description
Based on qualifications, candidates may be hired at one of the following levels:
Trades Inspector I: $54,102 – $71,187
Trades Inspector II: $58,430 – $76,882
Trades Inspector Sr.: $63,104 – $83,032
Signing Bonus Eligible Position
Supplemental Pay Opportunities for Additional Certifications:
$2,400 annually – one additional trade certificate
$4,800 annually – two additional trade certificates
$7,200 annually – three or more trade certificates
Candidates must obtain or be prequalified for an Electrical Standard Certificate Level I, II "OR" III with DOI prior to starting in the position.

The City of Greensboro’s Engineering and Inspections Department is seeking a skilled Electrical Trades Inspector to help ensure safe and compliant construction throughout our community. This position plays a critical role in protecting public safety by ensuring electrical installations meet N.C. State Building Codes and City Ordinances. This opportunity allows qualified candidates to be hired at the Trades Inspector I, II, or Senior level depending on education, certifications, and experience.

About the Role
The Electrical Trades Inspector is responsible for inspecting residential, commercial, and industrial electrical installations to ensure compliance with applicable building codes and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Inspect electrical installations for compliance with N.C. State Building Codes
Conduct field inspections of wiring, equipment, and electrical systems
Perform plan reviews of electrical drawings and construction documents
Investigate complaints and recommend corrective actions
Communicate inspection findings verbally and in writing
Maintain accurate inspection documentation and reports
Ensure compliance with OSHA safety policies and procedures
Work in environments that may include outdoor weather conditions, confined spaces, heights, exposure to loud environments, and electrical hazards
Engage in physical activities such as walking, standing, bending, kneeling, stooping, crawling, and climbing ladders to access rooftops, attics, and equipment
Mechanical Standard Level I and Plumbing Standard Level I certifications must be obtained within 2 years of hire in order to remain in the position.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma/GED with 1 – 3 years of hands-on experience in residential, commercial, or industrial electrical wiring
“OR” No High School Diploma/GED with 5 – 7 years of hands-on experience in residential, commercial, or industrial electrical wiring
Valid Driver’s License
Experience using Microsoft Office applications
Preferred Qualifications
Prior plan review or blueprint experience
Electrical Standard Certificate Level I, II, or III
"OR" Prequalified for Electrical Standard Certificate Level I, II or III (include copy with application)
Experience with a local municipality in electrical inspections
Supervisory experience
ICC Certification as an Electrical Inspector (include copy with application)
Mechanical Standard Level I and/or Plumbing Standard Level I Certification (include copy with application)
