OVERVIEW:
The Inventory Planning & Control position plays a key role in managing and optimizing inventory for the Grovetown and Thomson foundries, with a focus on raw materials, supplies, and related items. The position ensures accurate inventory balances, supports production schedules by providing needed materials, minimizes excess/obsolete/slow-moving stock, reduces investment in non-productive inventory, and improves overall inventory health through data analysis, collaboration, and strategic initiatives.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitor and analyze inventory levels across Grovetown and Thomson foundries (raw materials, supplies, and related categories), identifying patterns in demand, usage, aging, potential stockouts, and discrepancies to inform recommendations.
- Investigate and analyze raw material and foundry supply data; suggest and implement changes to improve inventory accuracy and overall health.
- Develop and support inventory optimization initiatives aligned with company goals, including efforts to improve accuracy, reduce obsolete/slow-moving/bad inventory, and increase productive/high-performing stock.
- Collaborate closely with procurement, buyers, production/shipping teams, manufacturing supervisors, and foundry operations to ensure material availability, process efficiency, and alignment with production schedules.
- Lead or support dispositions of excess foundry inventory (e.g., metals and supplies), including plans to consume internally, transfer to other locations, or sell to scrap/recycling suppliers.
- Own responsibility for maintaining and updating SAP Material Master data for foundry-related supplies.
- Develop, write, maintain, and update foundry inventory-related work instructions and procedures.
- Ensure daily heat sheets are accurate and current; thoroughly investigate and resolve any discrepancies.
- Develop and implement a flask inventory management system, including unique identifiers, regular cycle counts, and coordination with maintenance for repairs of unfit flasks.
- Assist in weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual WIP audits, as well as annual physical inventory counts for foundry locations; provide training on best practices as needed.
- Identify potential inventory discrepancies or risks and report findings to Foundry Supervisors and Senior Inventory Manager.
- Prepare and present clear findings, data summaries, and recommendations to leadership and stakeholders.
- Remain current with inventory management and material handling procedures relevant to foundry operations.
- Contribute to long-term inventory strategy planning and cross-site process improvements support company growth objectives.
- Other duties as assigned.
Authorities: Full access to necessary information and systems for job duties. Authority to request, suggest, or make adjustments to inventory levels and related parameters in enterprise systems (subject to approval processes where required).
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum: Associate's degree in Business Management, Supply Chain, or equivalent experience. Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or related field preferred.
- 35 years of experience in supply chain, inventory control, manufacturing, or foundry/high-tech/custom production environments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated experience in production planning, material management, and inventory analysis.
- Proficiency in Microsoft tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for data analysis, reporting, and visualization.
- Familiarity with enterprise resource planning systems (e.g., SAP) and inventory transactions (receiving, usage, obsolescence, valuation).
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working across teams and presenting insights.
- Proactive mindset with ability to work independently, manage time effectively, seek feedback, and drive continuous improvement in inventory practices.
- Certifications in supply chain or inventory management (e.g., APICS, CPIM) are a plus.
This combined role balances strategic analysis and optimization with hands-on foundry-specific execution, creating a more comprehensive position without the technology-heavy focus of the original Analyst description.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Primarily desk-type duty, but there occasions that will require frequent walking and standing in a manufacturing environment.
