Linux Platform Engineer - London

We are seeking an accomplished Linux Platform Engineer with a strong track record in large-scale, production-grade environments. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise in Linux systems engineering, a rigorous approach to automation and configuration management, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-performance setting. You will be comfortable owning complex infrastructure challenges end-to-end, working collaboratively across engineering teams, and driving meaningful improvements to platform reliability and operational standards. Experience in latency-sensitive or high-throughput environments - particularly within financial services or similarly demanding industries - will be a distinct advantage.

Key Responsibilities

• Engineer and operate the Linux platform across a rapidly growing global estate that underpins the firm's core trading activities
• Design, build, and evolve automation and configuration management systems (Ansible, Puppet, Chef) to support platform provisioning and lifecycle management at scale
• Drive platform observability through monitoring and logging tooling, and lead operational readiness initiatives through measurable reliability improvements
• Conduct in-depth performance analysis and tuning across Linux systems and services, diagnosing complex, multi-layer issues across OS, networking, and application interfaces
• Own build and release workflows - including packaging, software repositories, and the compilation and customisation of open-source components

Key Skills & Experience

• In-depth Linux expertise (RedHat-based distributions preferred) in large-scale, mission-critical production environments, ideally supporting latency-sensitive or high-throughput workloads
• Strong background designing and operating automation and configuration management platforms (Ansible, Puppet, Chef), with hands-on experience in observability tooling such as Splunk, Elastic, Prometheus, or Grafana
• Solid programming skills in Python and Bash; a working knowledge of C/C++ is advantageous
• Strong command of the server network stack and core protocols (TCP, UDP, IGMP) across LAN/WAN environments, with proven performance analysis and tuning experience
• Excellent analytical and communication skills, with the ability to produce clear technical documentation and remain composed when diagnosing complex issues under pressure
