Description
Position Title: Machine Operator/Blacksmith
Department: Manufacturing & Distribution - Skilled Jobs

Machine Operator/Blacksmith
Set up and operate hydraulic presses to perform cold and hot forming operations to form U-Bolts, eye rods, and similar type products from raw steel stock. Conduct all activities in a safe manner and follow all safety rules and regulations.
How You Will Help
- Work from operation traveler, prints and written or oral instructions to obtain raw material from storage, and to select and install required dies.
- Locate and secure dies on machine table, shimming as necessary.
- Use "blacksmithing" techniques to hot form bends. Apply torch to bend area, checking hear with temperature sticks to be within temperature range and bend part according to hot form specification and prints, making adjustment for spring back.
- Set up and operate Bugo and cameograph torch cutting equipment.
- Lay out and scribe dimensional points on parts.
- Clamp down part, square out, center head, and align torch for straight cuts.
- Set torch speeds according to tip size and part thickness, and torch cut parts to print specification
- May operate other machines such as: threader, saws, punch press, lathes, and drills as required.
- Use various measuring devices to ensure work is to print specification including, but not limited to, coordinate measuring machine, machinist square, micrometers, verniers, thread and plug gauges.
- Store all tooling, inserts and additional point-of-use items in an organized manner, in drawers, on work bench etc. with proper labels, color coding, floor marking or other identifying mechanisms
- Maintain work area as well as machines, tools, and equipment to meet program requirements.
- Performs all job functions in accordance with established operating procedures.
- Identify and assist in remediation of any and all safety hazards in the work place.
- Perform other duties as directed by Team Leader/Supervisor
What You Will Bring
- Ability to stand up to 10 hours per day
- Ability to use both hands and feet up to 10 hours per day
- Constant awareness of surroundings
- Ability for some pushing/pulling/lifting (up to 50 lbs)
- 2-3 years' experience in Machine shop
- Blacksmith/Fab experience a must
