Acco Material Handling Solutions ("Acco") specializes in the manufacturing of material handling equipment, including hoists, cranes, carts, and lifters. Its products are used primarily in industrial manufacturing and distribution environments, including aerospace, water treatment, heavy manufacturing, agriculture, mining, automotive, and logistics. Operating from three manufacturing facilities in the US, Acco provides ready to ship stock products or fully engineered custom devices. Products are sold through distributors, as well as to large direct customers. The Attalla operation specializes in the manufacturing of overhead cranes and patented track along with crane components.
Job Summary
The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for designing and modeling safe and efficient overhead crane systems, patented track configurations, and other equipment while complying with industry standards and requirements. This position will also have to perform engineering analysis and calculations to validate designs. This position will also be responsible for product improvements, assist in manufacturing improvements, and work with other design engineers to solve issues.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare order design and generate CAD drawings, 3D Models and other documents for manufacturing and assembly. Support production as necessary.
- Participate in the generation of Design Basis documents (Engineering Docs/Drawings/Electrical Diagrams) and review the output of others.
- Design and model custom crane systems that are safe, efficient, and structurally sound that comply with industry standards. (MH27.1)
- Work with other Design Engineers and Manufacturing Engineers to increase shop safety and production efficiency.
- Calculate and produce approval drawings for customer orders within a timely manner.
- Able to work under pressure, meet deadlines and be able to efficiently multitask.
- Communicate with all team members on site.
- Able to identify parts, locate parts and/or equipment to do other functions of the job.
- Punctuality and regular attendance are important to maintain manufacturing schedules.
- Make accurate counts and computer entries; fill out all necessary paperwork.
- Must be flexible and willing to help other departments out as necessary.
- Must be willing to work some overtime, as required.
Required Experience
- Previous experience in Solid Edge or a similar software.
- 3-5+ years' experience in design of overhead cranes, material handling equipment, or heavy steel fabrication.
- Previous experience in a manufacturing or welding environment.
- Experience with Microsoft office is a must.
- Able to read and understand a Bill of Materials.
Education Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
Physical Demands/Environmental Conditions:
- Will be exposed to some dust, smoke, and fumes normal to any manufacturing environment. *
