Description
The Office of Student Life is focused on building a strong foundation to ensure every student's Indiana University (IU) experience is positive, safe, healthy, and meaningful. The Office of Student Life staff aim to help students navigate their time at IU, providing the tools they need to be successful. Students are our priority, and their health, safety, and overall well-being are our core mission.The Indiana Memorial Union (IMU) serves as the community center for the Indiana University Bloomington campus, and building a sense of belonging and community are at the core of the Union's mission. In its nearly 500,000 square feet of space, the Union hosts more than 10,000 meetings and events per year, supports student organizations and student programs through its Student Involvement and Leadership Center, and is a popular place to gather for food and drink, studying, bowling or playing pool, or just to hang out. It is one of the few experiences that touches every IU student on the campus, as well as the building that hosts the most visitors to campus.
Job Summary
The Part-Time Custodian position is partially responsible for the safety and sanitization of the Indiana Memorial Union and adheres to the policies and procedures to maintain the facility at a high standard for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Cleans building floors, ramps, and stairs by sweeping, wet/dust mopping, cleaning carpets, or vacuuming them. Strips, seals, finishes, and polishes/buffs/burnishes a variety of floors.
- Services, cleans, and supplies restrooms. Gathers and empties trash. Disinfects and sanitizes frequently touched surfaces. Cleans meeting rooms.
- Locks, unlocks, and secures buildings. Maintains awareness of buildings and facilities and reports abnormalities or security concerns. Identifies and reports needed building repairs.
- Performs blood borne pathogen cleaning with proper certified training.
- Cleans and polishes furniture and fixtures.
- Cleans windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using chemical cleaners, sponges, and squeegees. Dusts furniture and walls.
- Mixes water and chemicals or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions according to specifications.
- Learns to operate our equipment.
- Cleans and removes snow from sidewalks.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
- General knowledge at the high school level
Preferred
- Custodial experience
Required
- Ability to interact and communicate with a wide variety of people
- Ability to perform work that requires medium to heavy physical efforts
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to work in a team environment and perform work in a safe and efficient manner
- Ability to use a computer to complete online training
- Ability to maintain good attendance
Additional Information
We are recruiting for 2 shifts.
Work Location
Indiana University Bloomington
This is an in-person position.
Advertised Salary
$13.10 per hour
Work Hours
Shift 1: 1:00pm - 9:30pm, with the possibility of some weekend work.
Shift 2: 5:00am - 1:30pm, with weekend work.
