Description
Definition:
Under the supervision of Recreation Supervisor or Coordinator, manage City of Longmont Aquatic facilities, programs, and staff. Assist with facility staffing, maintenance and general operation of the indoor and/or outdoor swimming pools to ensure a safe, fun and secure
environment.
Principal Duties:
Lead, manage, and assist Lead Lifeguards, Lifeguards, Swim Instructors, WSI’s, Concessionaires, Assistant Pool Managers and Front Desk staff.
Promote and participate in a safety-conscious environment, by actively managing facility by spending the majority of shifts on deck supporting staff and operations.
Assist with training and evaluating of all aquatic and concessionaire staff.
Routinely work with aquatics staff to improve and practice their lifesaving and /or swim instruction skills.
Ensure that employees report to work on time and are placed in their proper assignments, take an active role in finding coverage for vacant aquatic staff shifts, and complete employee counsel forms as needed.
Oversee the aquatic facility and programs in the absence of the Aquatic Coordinator or Supervisor.
Handles and/or reports any problems in staff relationships to the Aquatic Coordinator or supervisor.
Oversee and take chemical readings and make accurate, safe and necessary adjustments.
Keep chemical and filter room logs current and accurate and communicate to supervisors when appropriate.
Routinely perform standardized pump room procedures, ability to perform minor trouble shooting to fix routine pump room problems, all up to training level.
Enforce policies, rules and regulations governing the conduct of staff and patrons using the pool and maintain proper records and reports for adherence at all applicable Health Codes.
Communicate appropriate information to peers and supervisors in a timely manner, follows established communication methods as directed by supervisory team.
Assist visitors or staff in non-emergency and emergency situations.
Complete, submit, review and maintain variety of forms and files: incident, accident, and facility safety checks.
Can defuse conflict situations professionally resulting in a positive resolution with staff, supervisors and patrons.
Make and/or maintain cordial and professional public relations with patrons.
Conduct consistent walk-throughs of pool facility.
Observe, follow and enforce established policies and procedures regarding staff, facility, program, and safety protocols in the daily conduct of the job.
Perform and oversee custodial maintenance of the facility including trash removal, snow removal, and the cleaning of pool areas, restrooms, locker rooms, and other patron and staff areas.
Perform start/end of shift starting cash verifications for front desk staff.
Assist in planning for, attend and participate in staff trainings.
Adhere to and perform open and closing procedures for City swimming pools.
Assist in Administrative tasks including: time sheet accuracy and completeness, distribution of schedules, and front desk coverage
Manage inventory of lifeguard equipment, fitness and safety supplies, pool chemicals, etc.
Promote programs within the organization.
Performs essential duties and additional tasks in a manner which enhances City Attributes.
Requirements
Must be at least 18 years of age or older. Experience in pool chemistry, pool maintenance, and supervision of employees. Minimum of 3 summers or 1 full year of lifeguarding. Experience teaching swim lessons extremely desired.
Current certifications in American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, must possess one of the following certifications: American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor, American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, Certified Pool Operator, Aquatic Facility Operator. Must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s license.
