Overview
Under immediate direction safely operates cleaning equipment and handles chemicals to sanitize production equipment and to clean the production area.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for cleaning equipment and facilities according to a Master Sanitation Schedule.
- Use a variety of equipment, including high pressure water hoses, to thoroughly cleanse and sanitize production equipment following established procedures. May be required to disassemble and re-assemble portions of the equipment.
- Apply chemicals for cleaning, degreasing and sanitizing; apply hot water wash down for sterilization.
- Shovel and sweep floors, drains, and sewers from daily production; gather trash and transport trash to compactor for disposal.
- Handle equipment and chemicals in accordance with company, government, and material safety data sheet guidelines.
- Perform general housekeeping duties in worker area; maintain a clean and safe work area in compliance with existing policy.
- Comply with organization policies including, but not limited to, safety, good manufacturing practices, food safety, employment and work rules.
- Report any safety and mechanical problems to department supervisor or team lead immediately.
- Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE); recognize and practice Good Manufacturing Procedures (GMP).
- Keep assigned area clean, organized and free from safety hazards, including the chemical storage room.
- Responsible for keeping safety as a high priority for yourself and co-workers around you.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
• Must be able to bend and lift up to 50 pounds repetitively, while using proper lifting techniques.
• Must be able to stand, sit or walk, for extended periods of time up to 12 hours a day.
• Exposure to temperatures that range from freezing to sub-freezing (coolers, freezers, etc.)
• Must be able to push, pull, squat, bend, and reach above and below shoulders; repetitive use of hands
• Must be able to work overtime and week-ends as necessary.
Qualifications
- 0-6 months experience in a food manufacturing environment preferred.
- High School Education or GED desired preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude with the capability to learn and follow instructions for disassembly and re-assemble of food processing equipment.
- Self-motivated individual who requires minimal supervision and direction
- Ability to demonstrate excellent safety work habits at all times.
- Ability to work safely, calmly and effectively under pressure.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal instructions.
- Ability to read, understand and follow written specifications, blueprints or equipment diagramsMust be able to work as a member of a team
