Suffolk County Community College is the largest community college in the State University of New York (SUNY) system, enrolling more than 26,000 students at its three campuses in Selden, Brentwood, and Riverhead, as well as its Culinary Arts Center in Riverhead. Announcement is hereby made for a full-time (10-month) Professional Assistant for Natural and Physical Sciences position beginning in Spring 2026, at the Eastern Campus in Riverhead, NY.
This is a Unit III position covered under the Faculty Association of Suffolk County Community College collective bargaining agreement with the college.
Job Description:
Set up and maintain equipment and supplies for laboratory sections of courses in the physical sciences (Chemistry, Astronomy, Geology, and Oceanography). 
Maintaining a clean, organized, accessible and well-supplied learning environment.
Assist and support in areas of Biology as necessary, under the direction of the academic chair of the science division. 
Responsibilities include routine equipment maintenance, maintain inventory, order supplies, maintain MSDS files, manage hazardous waste, coordinate day and evening, summer, fall, and spring sessions, and provide technical assistance to faculty in all science courses.  
Applicants for this position are expected to be familiar with all safety regulations and will play a pivotal role in facilitating the implementation of safety protocols as outlined in the College Chemical Hygiene Plan. 
Active participation in departmental, campus, and college committees is required.
Other duties as assigned by the Academic Chair.
 
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or in a related field.
Minimum of two (2) years’ lab experience in a physical science or Astronomy.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
Lab experience in a college setting.
