Public Safety Radio systems Inspector (ERCES) 2ND SHIFT
Position Summary
The ERCES Inspection & Compliance Technician is responsible for performing annual inspections, testing, documentation, and compliance verification of Emergency Responder Communication Enhancement Systems (ERCES) in accordance with applicable codes and standards. This role ensures that in-building public safety radio systems meet all requirements established by the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), applicable NFPA codes, and FCC regulations.
This position is primarily night-based (approximately 90% overnight work) typically from 3 pm -11 pm due to testing requirements, occupancy constraints, and coordination with public safety agencies. The ideal candidate must be self-directed, technically proficient, and capable of working independently during overnight hours.
Primary Responsibilities
Annual Inspection & Testing
- Perform annual ERCES inspections per adopted Local requirements. To Include:
Conduct approved system testing.
Conduct visual inspections of Installed Systems
Verify System Configurations
Documentation & Reporting
- Generate detailed and accurate inspection reports as required by customers in a timely manner.
Generate reports outlining deficiencies to be forwarded for corrective action.
Operational Requirements
Work 90% overnight shifts (typical window: 3PM–1AM or similar).
Maintain professional communication with stakeholders.
Required NFPA Knowledge
The candidate must demonstrate working knowledge of:
- ERCES and RF trunking theory
Annual inspection and testing requirements
Grid testing methodology.
Requested Certifications
The following certifications are strongly preferred:
- FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL) (Required to complete probationary period)
Education Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- Preferred 2-3 years documented experience in:
ERCES systems
Public safety radio systems
RF systems or DAS environments
Technical Skill Requirements
- Understanding of RF propagation principles
- Experience with DAS and BDA systems
- Proficiency with test equipment:
Spectrum analyzer
Signal level meters.
RF sweep tools - Ability to read blueprints and design diagrams.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to climb ladders and access rooftops.
- Lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Work in mechanical rooms and tight spaces
- Extended periods of standing and walking during testing.
Work Environment
This is a field-based role. Approximately 90% of work is conducted at night to accommodate building occupancy restrictions and minimize disruption to tenants and emergency communications systems.
All applicants must meet the below criteria for employment.
- Must pass a pre-employment background check & Drug Screen.
- Multiple background investigations will be conducted by Federal, State, and local agencies to access controlled facilities.
- Must have a valid US Driver’s license.
Requirements
