POSITION SUMMARY
Petmate is seeking a Receiving Quality Inspector to support product quality through inspection and verification of inbound goods at our distribution facility. This role is responsible for confirming that received products match system information, documentation, and visual quality requirements before products move into inventory.
This position focuses on inspection, documentation, and communication of findings. The Receiving Quality Inspector works closely with Receiving and the Quality team to identify discrepancies and ensure established quality procedures are followed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Inspect inbound products at time of receipt for visible damage, defects, and packaging or labeling issues
- Verify products against system information and receiving documentation
- Confirm quantities and report discrepancies or nonconforming product
- Document inspection results accurately using checklists, forms, and electronic systems
- Communicate inspection findings to the Quality Manager for disposition or follow-up
- Apply established inspection criteria and quality guidelines consistently
- Maintain organized inspection records and files
- Follow all warehouse safety procedures and company policies
- Support continuous improvement by identifying recurring issues and trends
- Perform other duties as assigned
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies
- Ability to follow written instructions, diagrams, and inspection criteria
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively
- Sound judgment and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment
- Comfortable using computers and basic software tools
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Self-directed with good time-management skills
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Previous experience in product inspection, receiving, distribution, or warehouse operations preferred
- Experience documenting inspections or discrepancies is a plus
- No laboratory, manufacturing, or product testing experience required
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Frequently required to stand and walk; occasionally required to sit
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
- Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
- Regularly required to talk and listen
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This is a hands-on, hourly Quality Inspection role based in a fast-paced, physically demanding distribution warehouse environment. The position focuses on inspecting inbound products for visible defects, verifying quantities and items against system and receiving documentation, and accurately documenting findings. Exposure to dust, packaging materials, and temperature variations may occur. The role focuses on executing established inspection criteria and documenting findings rather than designing quality programs or owning quality systems. Petmate prioritizes safety and cleanliness, provides required personal protective equipment, and relies on strong teamwork and communication for success.
