Our culture in Risk Management and Compliance is all about thinking outside the box, challenging the status quo and striving to be best-in-class.As a Commercial Real Estate Appraisal Reviewer and Quality Assurance Reviewer in Risk Management, you are responsible for both conducting internal Quality Assurance checks of appraisal review work and directly engaging in the review of external appraisals for complex commercial and multifamily properties. This position requires the ability to work collaboratively across teams and communicate effectively with highly-skilled review appraisers, managers, and senior managers.
The role involves both independent and team-based responsibilities, with a focus on maintaining high standards of quality and compliance in all appraisal review activities. Given the dual nature of the role, you will need to be flexible, adaptive, innovative, a self-starter, a skilled time manager and an effective multi-tasker are all important.
Job Responsibilities
- Engage and review external appraisals on moderate to complex commercial and multifamily residential properties in connection with real estate related financial transactions
- Complete internal Quality Assurance Reviews (QARs) of review/evaluation work prepared by domestic and international IB Appraisal staff and/or engaged external reviewers.
- Review and analyze real estate valuation appraisal reports and appraisal reviews for compliance with JPMC policies, procedures, and guidelines, and for compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g. USPAP, FIRREA, IA&EG, Dodd-Frank, and Red Book.)
- Assess the quality, reasonableness, and completeness of staff and external reviewer work-product development and reporting.
- Complete appraisal reviews to JPMC's minimum appraisal and evaluation standards and appropriate regulatory guidelines
- Provide clear, concise written and verbal communication regarding appraisal and/or review findings and recommendations.
- Monitor and evaluate the quality of appraisal vendors engaged by the team.
Required Qualifications, Capabilities and Skills
- State Certified General Real Estate Appraiser
- Minimum of 15 years of full-time experience in the appraisal profession, including at least 5 years as a CRE review appraiser for a financial institution.
- Extensive experience in appraising and/or reviewing a wide variety of commercial and multifamily residential property types
- Real estate appraisal courses equivalent to those required for the MAI designation
- Comprehensive knowledge of appraisal theory, generally accepted practices, regulatory requirements, and appraisal management.
- Excellent mathematical, interpersonal, and communication skills (oral and written).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite products, especially MS Word and MS Excel.
- Proficiency with ARGUS Valuation products (DCF-15)
- Demonstratable experience in utilizing AI models (LLM) to streamline everyday workflow
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities and Skills
- Bachelor's degree
- MAI/AI-GRS and/or FRICS/MRICS designation(s) or equivalent; or completion of the Appraisal Institute's general and advanced course curriculum and professional experience requirement for the MAI designation or equivalent.
- Previous work experience in a banking/regulatory environment
