The Alberta Securities Commission (ASC) is the industry-funded regulator responsible for administering the province's securities laws. It is entrusted with fostering a fair and efficient capital market in Alberta and with protecting investors. As a member of the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA), the ASC works to improve, coordinate and harmonize the regulation of Canada's capital markets.
The ASC’s Human Resources (HR) team delivers both operational and specialized services in alignment with the organization’s business and strategic goals. HR manages core processes while also providing expert guidance on routine, complex, sensitive, and strategic people matters. This structure allows us to deliver service without losing the human connection.
The opportunity:

Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, the Senior Advisor works closely with a small team of HR generalists to deliver a broad range of HR services, including policy and procedure development, analytics, benefits, performance management, employee advocacy, learning and development, compensation and recruitment initiatives.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning and driving full cycle recruitment activities including: partnering with leaders to understand workforce and business needs, updating job descriptions; drafting advertisements and interview questions; determining appropriate methods of recruitment; identifying selection criteria; conducting interviews; and extending offers of employment.
- Contributing to and supporting the ASC’s compensation program including providing salary recommendations, educating people leaders on the ASC’s program, and evaluating jobs as a member of the job evaluation committee.
- Advising as a subject matter expert on internal HR policies and processes. Providing advice to employees and leaders, offering sound judgement and guidance on organizational policies, employment practices, and people-related matters.
- Supporting talent management and performance through supporting the performance management program and cycle, collaboratively developing performance improvement plans, guiding progressive discipline measures and termination processes; discussing learning and development opportunities, and supporting the creation of career development plans.
- Providing guidance on, and ensuring compliance with relevant employment, labour, occupational health and safety, human rights legislation and Government of Alberta.
- Managing short-term disability and long-term disability programs, accommodations and return to work plans to support employees and ensure compliance with legislation and organizational policies as required.
- Providing advice and answering questions on ASC policies, benefits and other HR-related items, or referring to appropriate individuals.
- Leading learning and development initiatives that build organizational capacity and support workforce planning objectives.
- Leading and/or participating in annual and ad hoc HR policy or project initiatives and activities.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A minimum of eight years of experience in a Human Resources Advisor or Business Partner role.
- Post-Secondary education in Human Resources, Business or related field combined with equivalent years of relevant HR experience.
- A CPHR designation is considered an asset.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships.
- Strong presentation and writing skills.
- The ability to maintain and promote confidentiality.
- Demonstrated skill in innovation and continuous improvement.
- Project management experience.
- Exceptional professional judgement.
- Strong business acumen.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- The ability to influence leaders at all levels of the organization.
- Strong knowledge of legislative compliance and Human Resources best practices.
- Excellent computer skills and experience with a HRIS systems and MS Office.
