Purpose:
The Staff Power Supply Design Engineer will be working with a group of engineers, technicians and assemblers in designing, developing, modifying and evaluating electronic parts, components or integrated circuitry for power supply systems. Determines design approaches and parameters. Analyzes equipment to establish operating data, conducts engineering tests and evaluates results. Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability. May also review vendor capability to support development.
Responsibilities:
- Design of DC/DC, AC/DC switch mode power supplies utilizing various electrical topologies.
- Interpret customer and marketing requirements for new or modified products.
- Performs electrical design and coordinate the activities for PCB, mechanical design, documentation, regulatory agency approvals and release of designs to manufacture.
- Modification of existing products to replace obsolete parts.
- Ensure products designs are cost effective and designed for manufacturing.
- Coordinate PCB and mechanical design.
- Performs cost analysis and produces cost estimates.
- Directs customer support.
- Performs ESS and FAT test for the qualification of products.
- Troubleshoot circuits as required.
- Make presentations to management and customers.
- Perform reliability prediction calculations and reports.
- Responsible for root causes analysis on products, technical problems and documentation.
- Responsible for implementing preventive and corrective action.
- Prepare user related documentation for products and components.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as directed.
Skills:
- LT Spice, Schematic Capture Tools, Board Layout Tool Familiarity
Requirements:
- Working knowledge of circuit design and simulation.
- Knowledge of Magnetic design.
- Experience with electronic packaging, electronic power supplies and power conversion products
- Knowledge of current manufacturing techniques for power products.
- Knowledge of CE certification standards, ISO and Mil standard EMI/EMC compliance.
- Knowledge of Potting and encapsulation a plus.
- Thorough understanding of Control theory.
- Familiarity of process design.
- Automatic assembly equipment a plus.
- Excellent verbal, written and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and complete tasks with minimum supervision.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, and 5+ years of job-related experience
