FTE: 1.0 (8 hrs/day; 260 days/year)
Salary: $131, 600 - $139,679
Position could begin as early as January 2026. This is dependent on applicant.
General Purpose: The Transportation Manager is responsible for ensuring the supervision of all Transportation staff, departmental planning, and coordination of services for the safe transportation of students of the Camas School District. In addition, direct oversight of shop personnel and warehouse. The Transportation Manager will coordinate with the Director of Operational Systems to establish a cohesive vision to provide students with the highest level of safety and timely transportation. This position establishes the district’s transportation plan, directs, coordinates and supervises all functions and operations of the district pupil transportation services including personnel, equipment, and budget management. This is an exempt position.
Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities:Education: Associates degree in Education or related field preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Completion of Pupil Transportation Management Certification Program strongly preferred or ability to complete in a timely manner.
Five years’ experience in the pupil transportation field in the following areas: Supervision of personnel, routing and scheduling, direct oversight of the Bus Driver Training Program and accident investigation.
Knowledge of Washington State pupil transportation regulations and reporting practices.
Effective decision-making skills. Experience with collective bargaining and or shared decision making.
Demonstrated knowledge of skills and experience in the following areas:
State rules and regulations concerning public transportation
Pupil Management Techniques
Supervisory procedures and practices, motivating and conflict resolution skills.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and follow Washington State Pupil transportation laws and regulations.
Innovate and solve problems creatively.
Resolve conflict and effectively work through grievance issues.
Maintain confidentiality.
Organize, set priorities, delegate, empower and direct activities.
Plan and implement employee training programs.
Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with a variety of people.
Work effectively in a high stress environment while maintaining a sense of humor.
Significant multi-cultural experience and expertise is desired.
Performance Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision and in conjunction with the Director of Operational Systems, the Manager will assist in the following responsibilities:Evaluate the performance of employees.
Make recommendations to HR regarding employee issues.
Maintain and encourage positive staff relations through regular, positive communication with staff, assist in resolving staff concerns.
Prepare and maintain transportation reports as required; maintain employee qualification records in accordance with Washington Administrative Code 392-144.
Observe and approve records of time worked by employees; verify payroll records.
Develop department policies and procedures for transportation.
Gather information in order to receive maximum state funding.
Monitor compliance with state pupil transportation guidelines and other applicable rules and regulations.
Meet regularly with district and transportation staff concerning transportation matters; resolve conflicts with district staff, parents and the community.
Develop and oversee driver-training programs.
Monitor and record employee’s state bus drivers’ certification and licenses.
May assist in the preparation of proposals for, and participate in, collective bargaining with employees on behalf of the district.
Oversee drug and alcohol testing program.
Delegate tasks to staff.
Annually prepare a schedule of in-service training for all school bus drivers that meet or exceed the requirements defined by the Superintendent of Public Instruction for the continuing certification of school bus drivers.
Maintain the training records and certification requirements of each school bus driver to assure that each driver remains certificated in accordance with Washington Administrative Code 392-144.
Supervise student emergency evacuation drills and other student-oriented bus safety programs.
Periodically review training programs in order to update and improve methods used.
Perform similar, related duties as assigned.
Assist in implementing retraining as necessary for drivers who do not meet acceptable standards.
Supervision of the shop and warehouse personnel.

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:Requires prolonged sitting or standing, stooping, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs.
Must work in noisy and sometimes crowded environments with multiple interruptions.
Work Environment:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: Generally, the job requires 10% sitting, 50% walking, and 40% standing. The job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

Benefits:
School Employee Benefit Board (SEBB) Eligibility determination: All eligibility determinations are based on rules in Chapters 182-30 and 182-31 of the Washington Administrative Code (WAC). If the position is anticipated to work a minimum of 630 hours in a school year, then that position would be deemed benefit eligible. SEBB benefits include medical, vision, dental, long-term disability and life insurance. Supplemental coverages are also available.
Retirement Eligibility determination: A certificated position participates in the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) which requires at least 5 months of 70 or more hours of compensated employment during a school year to be eligible for Washington State Retirement. A classified position participates in the School Employee Retirement System (SERS) if the position is expected to require at least 5 months of 70 hours or more for two consecutive years (initially) of employment.
