Department: Biological & Agricultural Engineering Department (BAEN)
Job Title: Assistant Professor of Biological Engineering
Job Rank: Assistant Professor, 9-month, full-time, tenure track
45% Research, 45% Teaching, 10% Service
Job Description: The Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering in the College of
Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M University invites applications for a 9-month, fulltime
tenure-track faculty position in Biological Engineering The successful candidate will be
expected to: 1) use a multi-disciplinary systems approach to develop a nationally recognized
research program focusing on but not limited to the following areas: (a) application of engineering
principles and tools to biological systems - including microbes, viruses, toxins, plants, and animals
- to optimize agricultural production, food safety, and environmental safety and sustainability, (b)
analysis, sensing and modeling (computational/numerical, molecular) of microbial and organic
materials including micro,- nanoplastics in food and airborne pathogen control for a deep
understanding of the role of food processing technologies on microbial behavior and product
safety; (c) design of processes and technologies for food, bioprocess, and molecular engineering
applications, including food manufacturing systems, bioprocess development, and molecular-level
engineering of biological components, with emphasis on structure–function relationships in
biomolecules and complex biological systems, as well as food quality, safety, functionality, and
sustainability, including management of bioaerosol emission, waste valorization and circular
bioeconomy approaches; 2) develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in engineering
based on the interests and needs of the Biological and Agricultural Engineering Department; 3)
secure extramural funding from a variety of sources including federal, state, industry and private
sources; and 4) serve the Department, College and University as assigned, and as opportunity and
expertise permits.
The candidate should aspire to lead a research program that fuses molecular/cellular bioscience
and molecular modeling with quantitative engineering analysis/synthesis approaches, including
Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Areas of high priority include cutting edge,
multiscale, data-driven approaches in non-medical molecular biotechnology, AI-enabled digital
representations of biological systems, microbiome engineering (with emphasis on designing novel
microbial capabilities to enable circular bio-economy, foster sustainable agriculture, and mitigate
the impacts of climate change), and food safety, including applications in materials, chemicals,
agriculture, sustainability, energy and the indoor / outdoor environment.
Collaboration with AgriLife Extension Faculty, participation in professional development
activities and an appropriate level of service to the department, institution, and/or profession is
expected.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must have an earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Biological
Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Food Engineering, or closely
related engineering discipline. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to lead a novel
research program in the engineering of biological based products, their processes and mitigation
of contaminants using experimental and modeling tools.
Successful candidates must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, an ability to work both independently and in multi-disciplinary teams and a willingness to advise and mentor students.
Applicants must be licensed or be eligible to obtain a license as a Professional Engineer at the time of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated potential to excel in conducting and publishing high impact research, developing an independent research program, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams of engineers and scientists and successful grant writing. Motivation and skills to educate students through academic programs in engineering at BAEN including the Agricultural Systems Management (AGSM) curriculum and in other departments.
Application Instructions: Interested applicants must apply through the Texas A&M University faculty job board hosted by Interfolio at https://apply.interfolio.com/189122 and upload the following:
1) cover letter, 2) curriculum vitae, 3) a personal statement addressing the candidate’s philosophy and plans for research, teaching, and service, and 4) names and contact information of three (5) professional references. Please direct any questions to Dr. Maria King at Maria.King@ag.tamu.edu. Review of applications will begin on October 1, 2026, and will continue until the position is filled.
