Description
Alleghany Services is seeking a Project Engineer to support the growth of our agricultural water management and drainage engineering practice. This role is responsible for delivering engineered solutions that improve farm productivity, water management, and long-term land performance.
The Project Engineer will work closely with designers, field operations, and clients to develop practical, buildable engineering solutions. This position will play a key role in helping scale Alleghany’s engineering capabilities as the company expands its leadership in agricultural water management.

Key Responsibilities
Engineering Design & Analysis
Develop drainage and water management designs for agricultural systems.
Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analysis related to field drainage, runoff, and water movement.
Review topographic data, survey information, and soil data to inform engineering decisions.
Prepare calculations, technical documentation, and design reports.
Project Management
Manage engineering tasks for assigned projects from concept through design completion.
Coordinate closely with design staff to develop plan sets and construction-ready documentation.
Ensure projects meet internal engineering standards and timelines.
Support engineering review and quality control processes.
Field & Construction Coordination
Conduct site visits to evaluate field conditions and verify design assumptions.
Collaborate with field operations teams to ensure designs are practical and constructible.
Support field teams with technical guidance during project execution when needed.
Client & Stakeholder Interaction
Participate in meetings with landowners, contractors, and project partners.
Provide technical explanations and engineering recommendations to clients.
Support development of long-term water management strategies for agricultural properties.
Engineering Growth & Development
Contribute to the development of engineering standards, templates, and technical processes.
Assist in improving internal engineering workflows and documentation.
Support the growth of Alleghany’s engineering practice as a leader in agricultural water management.
Required Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in:
Civil Engineering
Agricultural/Biosystems Engineering
Environmental Engineering
or related discipline.
Experience
Preferred: 5–10 years of engineering experience
Experience in one or more of the following areas:
agricultural drainage systems
hydrology and water resources engineering
stormwater design
irrigation engineering
land development or site design
Licensure
Professional Engineer (PE) preferred
Candidates pursuing PE licensure will also be considered
Technical Skills
Hydrology and drainage design principles
Topographic and terrain analysis
GIS and spatial analysis tools
Civil design software (AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar)
Engineering calculations and technical documentation

office-based engineering work
