Job Summary The primary function of this position is to facilitate mass spectroscopy experiments to support research in the School of Chemical Sciences. The Spectrometrist will train student users on the self-service and open access instruments according to the SOP's for the instruments. Other job responsibilities include handling chemical samples to be analyzed, operation and maintenances of mass spectrometers, and consultation with researchers who submit samples for analysis. An understanding of organic chemistry and basic electronics is necessary to fully participate in the process.
Duties & Responsibilities Perform GC-MS Perform MALDI analysis Perform low and high resolution EI, CI, and FI Routine maintenance of all above instruments - such as ion source cleaning, turning, calibration and consumable part replacement and other repairs as needed. Perform low and high resolution ESI service with Quattro Ultima and Synapt G2Si Mass Spectrometers Help the users for the sample preparation and answer the questions for the results. Communicating and consulting with students, faculty, and post-doctoral users about the services that he provides.
Requirements
Required Qualifications Master's degree in chemistry or other relevant discipline with strong experience in mass spectrometry minimum of 2 years of experience in mass spectrometry Preferred Qualifications PhD in analytical chemistry or other relevant discipline with strong experience in mass spectrometry. hands on experience in MALDI sample analysis of large biomolecules and small molecules. MALDI imaging. MALDI instrument maintenance, especially with experience with Bruker MALDI instruments and Bruker Flex Analysis software. Hands-on experience with maintenance and operation of MALDI, HPLC/UPLCMS, GCMS instruments. Skills in chromatography, such as HPLC, UPLC, GC, TLC. Skills in sample preparation and clean up (buffer, detergent and salt removal, etc) of biological samples. Skills in sample preparation for LCMS, for example, experience with SPE, molecular weight, cut off membranes, etc. Effective communication skills Expertise in LCMS and GCMS quantification Expertise with data acquisition on and maintenance of ESI-MS instruments
