Salem Hospital, a member of Mass General Brigham, is seeking an accomplished Board Certified Pulmonary and Critical Care physician to serve as the Chief of Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine. This is an exceptional opportunity for a dynamic clinical leader, educator, and collaborator to guide a well-established multidisciplinary program while advancing high-quality patient care, physician engagement, and academic collaboration across one of New England's premier integrated health systems.
The Chief will report to the Chair of Medicine and work closely with hospital and system leadership to continue expanding clinical excellence in pulmonary medicine, critical care, and sleep medicine. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of clinical leadership, quality improvement, and physician mentorship, along with a passion for innovation and patient-centered care.
About the Division
The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services, including:
Pulmonary consultation and specialty care
Critical care services in a multidisciplinary ICU
Comprehensive Sleep Medicine program with in-lab and home sleep testing
Advanced pulmonary diagnostics
Lung cancer screening and pulmonary procedures
Multidisciplinary care for COPD, asthma, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, and other complex respiratory disorders
The division collaborates closely with specialists throughout Mass General Brigham, providing patients with seamless access to tertiary and quaternary care when needed while maintaining exceptional care close to home. Salem Hospital's pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine physicians provide comprehensive inpatient, outpatient, ICU, and sleep services across the North Shore community.

As Chief, you will:
Provide strategic vision and operational leadership for the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine
Foster a culture of clinical excellence, innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement
Lead physician recruitment, retention, mentoring, and professional development
Partner with hospital and system leadership to advance quality, safety, and patient experience initiatives
Support program growth in pulmonary, ICU, and sleep medicine services
Collaborate with Massachusetts General Hospital and the broader Mass General Brigham network on clinical programs, education, and research opportunities
Maintain an active clinical practice in pulmonary and critical care medicine
Qualifications
Candidates should possess:
MD or DO degree
Board Certification in Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine
Eligibility for medical licensure in Massachusetts
Eligibility for appointment at Harvard Medical School preferred
Demonstrated leadership experience as a Division Chief, Medical Director, Associate Chief, or similar physician leadership role
Excellent communication, team-building, and organizational skills
Commitment to quality improvement, physician engagement, and patient-centered care
Sleep Medicine board certification or leadership experience in Sleep Medicine is desirable but not required.
