Overview

The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent reports to the Golf Course Superintendent and works under that position to manage and oversee all aspects of golf course maintenance as well as other landscaping facilities on the property.

• Assists in carrying out golf maintenance department policies.
• Assists in delegating work assignments and evaluating job performance in the golf course maintenance department.
• Requires knowledge of agronomics, fertilizer and chemical application, and operation of sprayers and spreaders.

Experience Required

• Able to communicate politely and professionally with guests, members, customers, and fellow staff members.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
• Enrolled in a degree in Golf Management or Agronomy, or 5 or more years related experience and/or training, or combination of education and experience.
• 5 years progressive experience as an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent.
• Current and valid Nevada Driver's License.
• Nevada Pesticide Applicators License to be obtained within 6 months of employment.
• Must be willing to work varied and flexible hours.

Essential Responsibilities

• Work under supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent and be accountable for the golf maintenance budget.
• Assist in hiring, training, supervising, disciplining, and terminating employees within the department.
• Monitor operation of the golf maintenance department, including scheduling, agronomic concerns, employee safety, and equipment maintenance.
• Supervise the maintenance of the golf courses.
• Oversee completion of work assignments by staff and assist with field decisions while engaging with all levels of staff to perform labor when needed.
• Perform actual labor on the golf course as needed to demonstrate, assist, and complete tasks in a timely manner.
• Enforce safe working conditions and instruct staff on proper equipment use and work methods.
• Supervise special projects and labor crews as directed by the Golf Course Superintendent or Director of Operations.
• Report golf course conditions and disciplinary problems to the Golf Course Superintendent or Director of Operations.
• Assist with staff scheduling and payroll processing for the department.
• Communicate verbally or through email with co-workers in golf maintenance and other departments.
• Coordinate equipment and tool maintenance issues with the appropriate equipment and/or facilities manager.
• Enforce company policies and procedures.
• Assist with departmental administration in accordance with corporate protocol, employee handbook, and company policies.
• Provide professional advice, opinions, assistance, and services for the betterment of the golf course.
• Assist in developing written operating policies, preventative maintenance plans, fertilizer schedules, and overall course condition schedules.
• Help protect golf facility assets, including facilities and equipment.
