Position Summary
EZ Law is seeking an Associate Attorney or Patent Agent to join our growing practice. We are also open to considering 2L and 3L law students with a strong interest in patent law and intellectual property. This position offers flexible work arrangements, including remote, hybrid, or in-office opportunities based in Lubbock, Texas. The candidate will work directly with the firm's founder on a variety of intellectual property matters while gaining experience in other areas of the firm's practice as opportunities arise.
Responsibilities
Prepare and prosecute U.S. patent applications.
Draft patent applications, responses to Office Actions, amendments, and related USPTO filings.
Conduct prior art searches and patentability analyses.
Participate in inventor and client consultations.
Perform legal research related to patent and intellectual property matters.
Assist with intellectual property strategy and portfolio management.
Draft legal memoranda, correspondence, and other legal documents.
Maintain organized case files and manage deadlines.
Collaborate with the firm's attorney to ensure timely, high-quality client service.
Assist with mediation, estate planning, and other legal matters as needed.
Qualifications
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school or current 2L or 3L law student with a demonstrated interest in intellectual property law.
Candidates who have passed the USPTO Patent Bar are strongly encouraged to apply.
Active state bar license (or eligibility for licensure) is preferred for attorney applicants.
Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively in a growing practice.
Prior experience with patent prosecution or intellectual property law is preferred but not required.
Experience with legal technology, document management systems, or case management software (such as Clio) is a plus.
While health insurance, retirement benefits, and other employee benefits are not currently offered, the firm is actively exploring these offerings as it continues to grow.
