Lead a team of inspectors and put your mechanical mastery to work.
The City of Newport News is hiring a Senior Building Codes Inspector with a mechanical focus to supervise the inspection of residential and commercial buildings for compliance with the Virginia Construction Code (USBC). This is a step up for an experienced, master-level mechanical tradesperson and certified inspector who's ready to lead a team while staying connected to the field on the toughest calls.
Target Salary Range: $60,006.00 - $70,442.00 Based on Experience

- Lead and develop a team of inspectors: prioritize and assign work, manage performance, and handle employee relations
- Make field inspections on the more difficult concerns, and consult directly with property owners and citizens
- Issue violation notices, warnings, and court summonses; testify in court
- Review requests for extension to abate code violations, and maintain time and production records
- Research legislative proposals and track changes to state and local codes and regulations
