- Building Inspector
Description
Performs responsible technical work in the enforcement of all adopted building codes. Primary duties include inspecting new building construction, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, gas, and other similar installations. Work is performed under general supervision and is reviewed by conferences, oral/written reports, and results obtained.
Requirements
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Conducts field inspections of work in progress or completed under approved building permits for conformance with all adopted codes.
Performs Fire Safety Inspections.
Issues Notices of Violation for non-conformance and re-inspects when deficiencies are corrected. Consults with architects, engineers, general and specialty contractors, and home owners.
Investigates complaints regarding alleged code violations, determines the validity of the claims, and suggests remedial action.
Reviews applications for permits, competency, and occupational licenses.
Maintains records of inspections made and makes reports to recommendations.
Assists in the prosecution of violators of the code and gathers witnesses and evidence.
Investigates contractors, electricians, and plumbers to ascertain that they have the proper qualification certificates.
Advises City staff on building and facilities construction and maintenance activities.
Participates in on-call and after-hours duties as assigned. Must be available for overtime and emergency call-outs when necessary.
Assists in preparation for, response to, and recovery from, the impacts of a wide variety of disasters or emergency situations and may be temporarily assigned to other duties, locations, and shifts.
Meets attendance requirements.
Promotes positive customer service environment internally and externally.
Performs other job related functions as assigned.
