Position Summary
The Campus Safety Ambassador is responsible for safeguarding the University of Georgia's buildings, people, and property. Working in coordination with UGA's Patrol Division, Campus Safety Ambassadors (CSAs) monitor and patrol campus areas, conduct safety escorts for students, respond to and report incidents, and communicate any breaches of campus security. CSAs receive training to provide essential medical assistance when needed, including CPR , AED operation, and the administration of Narcan.
In addition to these core duties, this position also serves as the Supervisor of the Campus Safety Ambassador Program. In this supervisory capacity, the CSA is responsible for overseeing daily operations of the ambassador team, coordinating schedules and patrol assignments, ensuring compliance with departmental protocols, providing ongoing training and performance feedback, and serving as the primary point of contact between the ambassador team and UGA Police leadership. The supervisor ensures that all ambassadors uphold the highest standards of professionalism, safety awareness, and community engagement.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
- Campus operations knowledge - Understanding of campus buildings, grounds, patrol routes, and the location and operation of utilities to ensure effective oversight of ambassador patrols.
- Safety risk recognition - Ability to remain alert, exercise sound judgment, and identify, assess, and report potential threats or hazards to life and property.
- Conflict management - Ability to interact effectively with employees, students, visitors, and individuals who may be trespassing or engaging in suspicious behavior, using de-escalation and professional communication.
- Instruction comprehension - Ability to understand, interpret, and follow oral and written instructions, policies, and safety protocols.
- Effective communication - Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in person, over the phone, and in writing, including during stressful or emergency situations.
- Two-way radio proficiency - Working knowledge of two-way radio communication procedures and etiquette.
- Leadership and supervision - Ability to lead, mentor, and supervise Campus Safety Ambassadors, including assigning duties, monitoring performance, and providing coaching and corrective guidance.
- Training and development - Skill in delivering on-the-job training, reinforcing safety protocols, and ensuring ambassadors maintain required certifications ( CPR , AED , Narcan, etc.).
- Scheduling and operations management - Skill in creating patrol schedules, managing shift coverage, and ensuring adequate staffing for campus needs.
- Professional judgment - Ability to make timely, informed decisions in dynamic or high-pressure situations.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily operations of the Campus Safety Ambassador Program
- Provide direct supervision to Campus Safety Ambassadors
- Coordinate and deliver training while ensuring all team members are up to date on required certifications.
- Nightly checks of campus and patrolling Campus Safety Ambassadors
- Develop and manage work schedules, ensuring adequate staffing for all shifts.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the ambassador team and UGA Police leadership, relaying updates, concerns, and operational information.
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching and corrective guidance, and support ambassadors in developing professional skills.
- Address operational issues, personnel concerns, or campus safety challenges promptly and professionally.
- Ensure ambassadors have necessary equipment (radios, safety gear, reporting tools) and that all resources are maintained and operational.
