Description

The Code Advocacy Engineer is responsible for developing general building code change proposals, advocating for the adoption of ACI codes and standards, and coordinating the advocacy of ACI members at state, national, and international levels.

Essential Job Functions

Activities may include but are not limited to:

•         Liaison with outside organizations to support ACI initiatives
•         Drive and support adoption of ACI standards by national and international groups
•         Answer technical questions, develop, and maintain information on the ACI website
•         Present on topics related to concrete materials, design, ACI codes, and standards
•         Develop and maintain a program of committee involvement outside of ACI, meeting attendance, and general building code input that ensures ACI’s relevance and influence on codes and standards adoption 
•         Serve as a representative to standards development organizations and specifying agencies to promote inclusion of language supporting ACI codes, standards, and certification programs in other organizations’ standards and specifications
•         Identify and participate in activities that foster support for codes and standards development
•         Represent ACI and work exhibitor booths at industry conferences and select priority venues
•         Develop and present code change proposals for general building codes
•         Identify standards needed by industry and communicate that need to ACI committees 
•         Assist in identifying and removing roadblocks to ACI standard adoption
•         Assist with the adoption and acceptability of ACI codes and standards by local, state, and national authorities and model building code developers.
•         Develop messaging and assist with promotional efforts that will enhance ACI’s position regarding codes and standards
•         Discover and report activities that impact or create opportunities for ACI programs, products, and services
•         Provide direct support to assigned ACI committees
•         Participate in Technical Committee (TAC) review for ACI codes and standards
•         Serve as a staff liaison for ACI Board Level Committee on Codes and Standards Advocacy and Outreach. 
•         Manage ACI code advocacy collaboration teams
•         Coordinate code advocacy efforts with all relevant ACI departments
•         Share relevant code advocacy information with ACI committees developing related technical information
•         Integrate information regarding ACI code advocacy efforts into ACI Communications and Marketing programs and Concrete International Magazine
•         Provide engineering support under ACI’s Shared Services Model
•         Miscellaneous projects as assigned

Requirements

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Structural Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.

Experience: 10+ years of experience in the technical aspects of the concrete industry. 

Technical Ability:

•         Proficiency in software related to area of expertise
•         Proficiency in engineering mathematics and dimensional analysis
•         Capacity to learn and utilize new computer programs and systems
•         Working knowledge of MS Office Suite
•         Ability to operate standard office equipment such as telephone, computer, photocopier, and scanner

Certifications/Licenses: Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) designation preferred.
