- Community Risk Reduction Intern

The Village of Skokie, IL, is currently seeking qualified candidates interested in a paid internship, assisting our Fire Department in the area of community risk deduction. Under general direction of the Division Chief of Fire Prevention, this position supports the Skokie Fire Department’s efforts to identify community risks and implement proactive strategies that reduce the likelihood and impact of fires, medical emergencies, and other hazards. This internship assists in the development of the overall Community Risk Reduction Plan for the Village of Skokie and the Skokie Fire Department, and provides hands-on experience in fire prevention, public education, data analysis, and community outreach while contributing to the department’s Community Risk Assessment (CRA) and Standards of Cover (SOC) initiatives; Assists with the collection, organization, and analysis of data from fire incident reports, NFIRS/NERIS, demographics, and other sources to help identify high-risk areas, populations, and hazards in the community; Supports the planning, development, and delivery of community outreach and public education programs, including fire safety presentations, smoke alarm installation events, CPR training, and vulnerability reduction initiatives; Participates in occupancy safety assessments; Assists to coordinate and staff community events, school programs, and partnership activities with local organizations, recordkeeping, tracking of program metrics, and preparation of reports for Village and Department leadership; Performs other work-related duties, as required; Work will be performed both outdoors and in an office setting; Must follow all safety rules of the Village. Requirements
Must be 18 years old prior to beginning employment; Must possess a valid Driver’s License; Must be currently enrolled in, or a recent graduate of an accredited college or university program in fire science, emergency management, public administration, communications, public health, or a closely related field; Able to effectively use Microsoft Office Suite software; Familiarity with data analysis tools (PowerBI) or GIS is a plus; Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with co-workers and the public; The successful completion of a brief physical examination and drug test is required prior to beginning employment. The Village of Skokie tests for Cannabis. In keeping with Federal Law, we consider Cannabis to be an illegal drug. This position is not eligible for any health insurance benefits or retirement benefits offered by the Village.
