JW Aluminum is in search of an experienced Technical Manager to work at “The Leading Aluminum Rolled Products Company in the World”. This highly visible and influential role will report directly to the VP of Continuous Improvement. This individual serves as the primary technical authority on metallurgy programs for melting, casting, rolling, annealing, and finishing to enhance operational capabilities, customer satisfaction, and product innovation The Corporate Technical Manager also leads interdepartmental, cross-functional teams to resolve complex technical problems and customer issues and acts as a technical resource for quality methods and tools and their applications across plant wide manufacturing and quality functions.
Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities
- Direct and oversee melting, casting, rolling, and annealing metallurgical programs to enhance operational capabilities, customer satisfaction, and product innovation.
- Establish and refine procedures to meet customer quality standards, reliability, and delivery timelines in a safe and economical manner
- Monitors enterprise process performance to ensure that stated objectives are being met in terms of safety, first pass quality and productivity.
- Proposes, sponsors and leads projects that will improve product performance, reduce costs, improve yields, or reduce cycle time though practices such as SPC, Designed Experiments, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Failure mode effect analysis (FMEA)
- Coach, train, partner and provide leadership through Lean and Six Sigma to effectively analyze and improve business performance to achieve overall business metrics.
- Serves as enterprise ISO Management Representative and support site Quality and Technical resources in scheduling and maintaining audits and certifications.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgy, Metallurgical Engineering, Material Science, or Chemical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- ISO 9001:2015 Quality system experience
- At least 5 years of experience with Continuous Improvement tools and methodology such as Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, TPS, or Theory of Constraints.
- Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to independently prepare and deliver presentations and training materials.
- Interfaces with the organization, customers, and suppliers acting as a coach and trainer.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross functional teams to achieve continual improvement with a focus on quality and customer satisfaction, productivity, and safety.
- Strong organizational and project management leadership abilities; can coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to travel as required.
