The State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation (CTDOT) invites its eligible agency employees to apply for a Department Of Transportation Drawbridge Attendant position.
POSITION HIGHLIGHTS:
SCHEDULES: There are currently two full-time (40 hour) vacanciesEast Haddam Swing BridgeMonday & Tuesday, (4:00 P.M. – 12:00 A.M.)
Friday through Sunday, (8:00 A.M. – 4:00 P.M.)
Wednesday/Thursday OFF

Monday/Tuesday OFF

THE ROLE:
The Drawbridge Attendant is a key player in keeping Connecticut’s waterways moving safely and smoothly. This essential frontline role ensures 24/7 bridge operations, supporting emergency responders, recreational boaters, and commercial vessels alike. By overseeing the reliable operation of each moveable bridge, the Attendant helps maintain safe navigation, quick emergency access, and dependable passage for the entire marine community.
The selected candidate will be responsible for:
Operation of the drawbridge in accordance with established procedures and U.S. Coast Guard regulations;
Monitors and reports any electrical, mechanical, or boating-related issues;
Maintains accurate daily bridge logs, recording all openings and incidents; and
Remains on-site for the entirety of the assigned shift and stay at the post until properly relieved.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
A valid driver's license and pre-physical examination are required.
Candidates must indicate they hold a current and valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license in the "Licenses and Professional Certifications" section of the application.
Incumbents in this class will be required to have a 30-mile residency from the posted job location
Prior to hire, the selected candidate will be required to complete a preemployment physical and work assessment.

Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
Knowledge ofphysical properties of standard maintenance materials;
mechanical principles;
basic practices of the maintenance trades;
Skillsinterpersonal skills;
oral and written communication skills;
Ability touse hand and power tools and make minor repairs to simpler mechanical equipment;
operate equipment listed on the attached addendum;
understand and follow written and oral instructions;
utilize computer software.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any experience and training which would provide the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above.
